Much less expensive to buy the replacement part than replacing the pair with new ones. The only thing to tell apart from the two dumbbells is that the color of the numbers on the dials of the replacement one are a slightly different color than the original ones I have. Not sure if it's because mine are older (~10yrs) but makes no difference to me because they both work now!
