I looked through several basic wire jewelry books before deciding to purchase this one. Simply put, I bought it because it features jewelry that I would like to wear. Also, I wanted a technique book that would cover the basics of working with silver and other quality materials right off the bat. Specifically, I wanted to learn a couple of sturdy chains techniques and to create findings that don't look frail. The author tends to use materials that I use too, such as trade beads and Bali-style silver, and I was attracted to the way she combines those materials in new ways. Some of the techniques covered did seem derivative of artists like Lynn Merchant and Connie Fox, but many have the special signature of the artist, such as the flat coiled end on earwires and pleasing asymmetrical stacking of beads and findings. Basic materials and techniques were covered fully in preparation for the scope of the projects in the second section. One could jump in at just about any point in the book, but there was also a logical progression from one project to another. Clear step-by-step photographs (probably the best hand/tool shots I've seen in any craft book) and flawless text made it easy to read and then work through the projects. Not surprising, considering the author is editor of Somerset's Belle Armoire and Art Doll Quarterly. I highly recommend this book if you like sturdy, wearable, silver wire and bead jewelry with an earthy, ethnic flairRead full review
A great book. Alot of helpful information and very detailed, easy to read instructions. I found this book to be a super addition to my library of books. Learning her techniques is very easy to follow. This book has great photographs to demonstrate how to accomplish something as simple as making a jumpring. There are many unique pieces that are demonstrated in pictures and instructions that are just lovely. It is better than anyone I have ever read about. You can take what you learn in this book and make great pieces yourself.
This is absolutely a MUST HAVE book. This has more of an ethnic spin on her style of wire working. It is not your traditional wire wrapping. She does antique her wire for a wonderful aged look. I haven't seen another book like this on the market. WOW! Very meaty. She takes you through basic techniques and then goes into projects. If you like Sharilyn Miller's style of jewelry -- you will not be disappointed. Wonderful step by step color photo instructions. To see examples of her work check out the .com website with her name.
I have many wire wrap jewelry books and a slew of video tutorials and this book is by far heads above the rest. It starts out with the tools you will need and the basic skills needed to make the beautiful pieces in the book. The pictures and directions are easy to follow and the pieces are so easy to put your own creative spin on. I love this book and would recommend it to anyone who wants to or enjoys making wire jeaelry.
I enjoy to read to show how to make wire jewelry and really understand also has showing pictures how to do it. I gave five stars..
