These radios compare to much costlier units. They take standard Motorola accessories like external mics and headsets. Both the free programing software "Chirp" and the free BaoFeng version work fine. Because of all the programing options it is almost necessary to use a programing cable. Simple freq entry isn't too hard but anything above that required a whole lot of key presses. Don't expect a free cable to work, even with driver disks supplied! Those cheap and free cables contain a copied chip that the the original manufacturer disables with their drivers. Buy a programing cable that mentions it has a legal FTDI chip and requires no driver disk and you should be OK. The cables are about $18.00. If you do buy a programing cable you may also want to update the squelch settings to get better action after changing the squelch level.Read full review

Great unit and love the options on it but the learning curve to figure out how to use all of it will be a challenge. But that can be expected for this type of technology.

Basic radio, extended-life battery, charger & earpiece are excellent... very impressed. - Handheld microphone is not compatible with radio (only a one-channel Mic for a two-channel radio) - The instructions that come with it are a vague translation to english and don't always make sense. - The programming software that comes with it is useless, not user-friendly at all (one has to search for and download 3rd-party software to program); but at least the programming cable provided works. Still happy with purchase overall but disappointed with with price paid given all the extra work/research and accessory purchases required to use it.

Maybe it's just me but I was unable to get the software to work and I was unable to get chirp to work but by watching some YouTube videos I was able to program and use some of my local repeaters and once I got it working the Baofeng UV-82 works as it should and with the 8 watts of power I was able to hit some of the more distant repeaters.

"Package" is an Excellent Value. Includes Extended-Capacity Battery, Extension Spkr/Mic, USB Cable, Standard Earpiece/Mic Cable and charger). (Doesn't Include Standard Battery) Works Just Fine. Radio with Extended Battery has Nice Balance and "Feel" in Hand (Thought it might feel "Bottom-heavy" or bulky -- actually Very Good!)
