Most people would be deceived but the size and weight of this microphone. It is not as big and heavy as an RE 20 or as hyped as an AKGD112. It is well built(in China) and clean. It handles low frequencies and high sound pressure levels. I purchased it exclusively for Bass drum when My D112 stopped working and discovered that in some ways it is as good if not better than the D112.It is a good Bass drum Microphone(But microphone choice is subjective). Bass drum is all have I use it for, though I am sure it does more than that. As a footnote I have never had a bad Audiotechnica product.
I bought this mic because I wanted a more professional sound to my kick drum, and that's exactly what I got. The 2 elements seem perfectly balanced, without any eq or compression or even balancing the faders I already have a pretty decent kick sound. It lacks a little sub frequencies, but I don't think that matters really. The natural sound of this mic is really punchy, which is what I wanted. Couldn't be happier with it.

Nice and useful mic, good for kick drums, bass cabinets, and guitars! Has the ability two blend sounds for that personal taste while eliminating unwanted phasing issues and placement problems!

This is one of the best mic.'s for Kick drum that I've used. It also sounds great on Snare. The only consideration is that it takes up two tracks when you are miking a drum kit with a bunch of other mic.'s. If you can pick up a used one on ebay it's money well spent. And even new it's worth it's price. Far more useful than all of my other kick drum mic's.
Perfect addition to the home studio mic cabinet.
