This book brought me back to the days when I worked for the Army as a lab technician. When some of these PhD's start talking about some of their adventures in chemical, biological and nuclear research they love to give accounts of their triumphs and mistakes. Some of what they did in the name of research back then would land them in jail today. One of our janitors was stealing ethanol so we put some phenol in it. The guy who didn't show up the next day because he had the runs was the culprit! The author gave some great explanations of what happens when a new theory is 'proven' and how everyone else wants to get in on the "proof" and write a paper. Details into the development status of the Germans and Japanese atomic bomb progress was very interesting as was the explanation of nuclear powered rocket engines that we use today. It was a very enjoyable book for me and hard to put down until I finished it.Read full review
