This is a merit badge pamhplet (MBP) from the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Merit badges are subject-related or activity areas that Boy Scouts can learn about & then pass off certain requirements to earn a patch. Each merit badge has a corresponding MBP. These MBPs, which are advancement, are gathered by boys working on merit badges, counselors who pass of boys for particular merit badges, & troops who build a library for their boys to borrow from. There have been several different types (particularly the covers) of MBPs over the years. The 1966 version has a full photo cover. Astronomy is a popular, elective merit badge, usually earned by boys at a Boy Scout summer camp. The MBP discusses topics such as the moon, planets, the sun, constellations, telescopes, & observatories. The Astronomy Merit Badge was created in 1911, when merit badges were 1st introduced, so earlier versions & printings of the Astronomy MBP exist prior to the 1966 version. Later versions & printings, after 1966, have also been published. I used some of these versions as a Scout, learning & earning the badge, then later as a merit badge counsellor, teaching the badge.Read full review
