Of all the DVD's I own (a lot) this whole series is by far the most used part of my collection. I think the reason a lot of Americans missed out on why this series was so funny is we are used to seeing comedy that parodies stereotypes we have of other people, whereas this series generally parodies stereotypes that other people have about Americans (we treat Mexican workers badly, we have a lot of money that we don't work for.) There is also a lot of jokes about things that arn't usually considered appropriate to joke about, like incest. Also, instead of having one joke that drags on and on a la Saturday Night live, the jokes are just quick one liners that will come up again and again in a variety of situations. That is one of the reasons I always come back to this show, I always find something I missed the other times I watched it. My favorite episodes in season one are Alter Egos and Justice is Blind. They follow a series of events where Michael (the serious one) decides to have some fun for once and starts a one night stand with a blind attorney. It lasts a little longer then one night, and it turns out the attorney, Maggie Lizer, is the prosecutor and not blind. However, her guide dog, Justice, is. How can you not find that funny?Read full review
Four years after its release, the arrested development season one box set has survived what obvious viewing pleasure could have incurred through the time frame from one family in Canada (specifics not specifically specified) to that of an exciting young couple located in Saratoga Springs NY, USA. As current owner of this magnificent product, I would love to first thank the academy. Special thanks to all those who mentored and guided me toward learning how to understand and operate a computer, and of course, navigate the internet. Although I have not yet viewed what exciting episodes of arrested development stories have to offer in season one, EVER, I want to note that its condition favors more of a 'through the years' defensive one. It appears that the package would have arrived in mint condition, had the postal workers not admittedly played rugby with it. In Canada and then in USA for a rematch because of previous weather conditions. It is apparent that this very material object itself found its path of life led to me through a divine strength and connection with the laws of attraction...Read full review
If you haven't seen Arrested Development - and unfortunately that population is FAR too big - you are missing out. Arrested Development is FOX's improv-based show that has amassed a cult following. It follows the Bluth family - a disjointed and bizarre family who has illegally managed a family business and fallen in lots of money... that money though becomes tight after FBI investigations and Arrested Development follows the stories of the twisted family and son Michael Bluth's (Jason Bateman) quest to remedy the situation. The show is filmed like other similar hits (Mr. Show, Curb Your Enthusiasm, etc) in that there is a scripted plot but no script. Though Arrested Development didn't gather a massive following in its first season, it gathered mass acclaim: receiving 7 Emmy nominations, a Golden Globe, and won the TV Land "Future Classic" award. If you are a fan of shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm or Mr. Show, or movies like Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, etc - you'll love this DVD!! A Must Buy.Read full review
OK OK, before anyone cries heresy, please make sure you've seen this show. Some shows such as Mash, Cheers, and Cosby Show are classics, and AR will not be considered a classic (it was only around for 3 seasons), BUT, once you've seen it, you will agree this show deserves the title I've given it. I already had seasons 2 and 3, and wanted season 1. This show had me rolling in stitches for every single episode. I have never bought any other comedy show, for mostly, if I've seen it once, then that's good enough. Well, not for Arrested Development. As I've seen every episode multiple times, and will see them again. IMO, this was the best comedy I've seen. The characters are all so unique and quirky, but work incredibly well together. There is not a character I do not enjoy. The subtlety of the way they act to pull off perfect expressions, or delivery of lines make for a riot of a comedy. For some reason, it was underrated, and only lasted 3 seasons. I'm tired of sitcoms that have laugh tracks, or audiences with laughing and applause signs. I don't want to be told what I think should be funny. I want to laugh at what I think is funny. That's another reason I love AR. Fortunately, I laughed quite a bit. I strongly urge to watch this via DVD, as I've had to stop play of the DVD to wait until I've stopped laughing, or I've laughed so hard I can't watch anymore because I'm literally hurting from laughing. Also, some scenes you have to watch again. AR will hopefully be made into a movie, (possibly several), and is a MUST watch show.Read full review
I bought this because the first season was taken off of Hulu.com before I could watch all of it and I am halfway through season 2. Buying this used was cheaper than renting it and now I get to keep it! This show is incredibly well written and the humor is fast moving. The story over the whole three seasons is well connected so I highly suggest you watch the first season before watching any others! Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, Portia de Rossi, Jeffrey Tambor, David Cross, Jessica Walter, Will Arnett and a constant supply of guest stars make this show highly entertaining!
