I needed this monologue for my History class. At first it seemed like something I had to do, but it turned out to be something i wanted to do. I enjoyed mainly the difference of severity of experience among males and females even in slavery. Even if one does not have the time to read this whole book, one can easily narrow the book down in terms of specific points by referring to the individual chapters. It chronicles treatment of slaves from times like the American Revolution and Civil War to Emancipation. After reading just one chapter of this book, I gained a new insight into slavery and gender inequality that no history book could begin to teach.Read full review
