My unit was swiftly dispatched from an Amazon Warehouse, new. It was packed well. The sound was acceptable on FM & HD radio as played through the RCA jacks. Operation controls were a tad awkward but adequate. The unit ran cool. The Toslink digital output port was disconnected from within or was otherwise faulty, necessitating returning the unit. The merchant was understanding & courteous. In my view, Sangean still has some quality control problems. I am grateful that they are 1 of 2 US companies manufacturing HD Tuners. I am hoping that they will soon make a component of better quality. I bought two Sangean radio tuners for family members. I still own an HDT-1, which misbehaved after 2 months. Sangean fixed it without hassle. After 8 years of service, the Toslink digital optical out on HDT-1, ceased functioning. I am unsure that it is worth repairing. A Toslink replacement and new lamp may be all that is required, in which case, this buyer will complete the repair himself. I hope that Sangean is listening to consumers about the design of their products. Competition from Tivoli Audio, Como Audio and Hi tech, USA built, DaySequerra is formidable.Read full review

Good design, FM Radio & HD Radio worked well, AM radio not the greatest. I'm using it hooked up with COAX digital output to my Maverick D1Plus Digital Processor & using Presonus E5 speakers along with Temblor T8 subwoofer. Only 2 HD radio stations in my area, however the quality is suberb, FM radio in this configuration worked quite well. Remote Control supplied and external antennas AM & FM. Clean Display..Good Manual.

This is my second HDT-20. It is a sensitive, high-quality FM/AM/HD tuner. I use the digital outputs and an external DAC. I listen mostly to music on the college stations located at the lower end of the FM spectrum. I also love that many FM stations broadcast their AM talk radio streams on one of the FM HD substreams. This allows me to enjoy high quality AM radio on the FM band. This replaced my former Sony XDR F1HD. The Sony played only one HD substream. It was very sensitive. However, it did not have a digital output. It was inadequately cooled. Many have simply burned-out. Repair is problematic. I decided to sell it before it failed. The HDT-20 is a worthy replacement

I don't understand - Sangean's older model has more features than a newer HDT-20HD. If you already wrote the software 'code' for the tuner, why wouldn't you leave that feature in & improve it, not remove it? Sangean, please work on the AM section of this tuner- yes, engineers still need a decent AM tuner. The HDT-1 model had OK AM audio bandwidth, but AM audio bandwidth has gone down in each model. NOTE: MOST of the HDT-1X tuners had analog AM Stereo (CQUAM) and even a display indicator. Please return CQUAM stereo AM and better AM sensitivity. Like the 'knob', that's all.
