Simply unprecedented quality for the price. Is it perfect? No, but again, for the price, I can't think of a better small diaphragm condenser microphone. Easily beats out the Samson C02, that thing has a terrible noise floor, the AKG P170 has not shown any perceivable noise, even at moderate-high gain levels. Works well for voices (a bit lacking in low end, but still very good for most voice tones), and works well for instruments (that's what it's made for). There are better microphones out there, and if you have a higher budget, I would recommend you look for something a bit nicer, but at this price it's hard to say no to. I have far more expensive mics in my kit, and I picked this up just as a backup, and I am content.

A decent mic, especially for the cost. Higher sensitivity and better S/N than other mics in this price range. I tested it against a couple of Shure 869s I own and the P170 was much clearer and cleaner with greater output. Probably great for drums and other acoustic instruments. I will definitely use this mic.

This is a great set of mics, pristine sound incomparable in this price range. Separate them and record a true stereo field. Use them with any 3 mic technique and achieve stellar performance. Overhead mics for drums they are killer, sensitive with a quality tone very little EQ needed to bring these in the mix. Use them on a guitar cabinet in a 3 mic pattern these two above and slightly in front and a dynamic mic close to speaker and get studio fresh guitars. Pair them in the same set up with a large diaphragm condenser and record a killer vocal track thick and dripping with ambiance and tone. You could drop a bundle on some overhyped mics and get less bang for your buck but why would you want to this is good stuff

I have been working in studios for over 20 years, currently I own a home studio and I do small acoustic projects and a lot of mixing and mastering. I was almost shocked at the quality of sound I got from this microphone for the price. I use a lot of shure microphones, and a big Neumann fan. This little gym has more than delivered what it promised. I highly recommend this microphone for acoustic guitar in small home studios.

Used in a minimalist two-track drum recording setup for backing tracks. Just one kick bass mic (Beta 52A) and one overhead mic experimenting with various heights and positions. This one worked the best of 5 mics tried. It was outstanding for the floor tom and cymbals, a bit mid heavy for the snare. Just a bit of EQ on input was all it took to make it still not so boxy but still fat.
