The Titanic is an episode one can't forget. This recounts the tragedy so profoundly. I recommend this movie for those who haven't been informed about the tragic event. Especially in light of the most recent tragedy (of the Submeril). The actors and actresses were excellent in the film. I wonder if anyone recognized one of James Bond AMORE? KOODOS for this film.

This film is exactly what I remember watching on a Saturday night when I was a kid! I never knew the title. Then I found a VHS copy of it in Waldenbooks many years later and wore it out watching. How can you NOT be gripped by at least ONE aspect of this story? A magnificent new liner, the largest in the world and widely regarded as "unsinkable", having that unsinkability violently disproven by an iceberg which disembowled her and sent her to the bottom with an appalling loss of life on her maiden voyage. The passengers and crew who put their faith in this behemoth, and who were excellently portrayed. From "Sir Richard" and his wife in First Class (modelled on the Duff-Gordons), to a heroic Second Officer Lightoller (played by Kenneth More), to the young Second Class newlyweds staying together to the bitter end, to the lowly Third Class passenger "Pat" and his group, all aspects of Edwardian society were brilliantly represented. The issue of the Californian, and Captain Lord's inaction, are dealt with straightforwardly, if a little accusatory. And the heroism of Captain Rostron and the Carpathia are highlighted without being overplayed. All in all, A Night To Remember has something for everyone, and is well worth the time spent watching it. Read full review

Being in my early 50s , l sadly admit l had never seen this version of Titanic until recently ..l now realize that this 1958 film is more realistic then any other because of interviews and research of the survivors ..l found myself engrossed in this Film.. Well acted....you can really feel the classy respectful yet at times somewhat snobish style that the British and American muckety mucks conveyed at that time .... The Special effects are not the Greatest , but for 1958 standards , they're not to shabby ..... unlike the 1997 version which the main story is fiction, The Focus in this film is quite different , you can see how frustrated the crew are that there is another Ship (the Californian)not more then 20 minutes away with no response, The 1997 film does not even mention the Californian at all !! , Also, you realize how dedicated (and misguided) at times the Titanic crew were until the very end .... l truly enjoyed this film and will watch it many times again ...As a bonus you also get interviews and actual footage of the making of this movie totaling over an hour !...Read full review
39 years before James Cameron's epic, "Titanic," the Rank Organisation and producer William MacQuitty brought to the screen this brilliant adaptation of Walter Lord's famous 1955 bestseller, "A Night to Remember." Based on 20 years of research and interviews with more than 50 survivors, this classic film has a timeless, "you are there," quality. Although some aspects of the sinking are based on assumptions made before the 1985 discovery of the wreck, these will not deter you from your enjoyment of this movie. The cast is outstanding, the costumes and sets are historically accurate and the entire production is first rate. Criterion, as usual, has done a superb digital transfer, picture and sound quality are pristine. Bonus features include a 60 minute documentary about the making of the film and available commentary from Titanic historians Don Lynch and Ken Marschall. A must see for any Titanic enthusiast and a great companion piece to James Cameron's "Titanic."Read full review
It's great, and mostly historically accurate. My big regret is that I bought it on DVD, I wish I had it on Blu-ray, it would sure be worth the extra money.
