I own a smart charger for my AA/AAA batteries and love it, so when I saw the Opus BT-C96 I decided to give it a try and I haven't been disappointed. There is a learning curve though because it has several functions. It comes with a four page instruction book that covers everything to get you started, I also did some research by reading some of the reviews for the other Opus chargers on some of the forums out there (yes, there are battery and charger geeks out there). Some reviews went into more depth than I can here and they do basically the same thing. The charger is smaller than I expected, it's hard to judge it's size by a picture. It measures 4 3/4 in by 3 3/4 in by 1 in., so it's nice and compact. It comes with an AC plug and the instructions. Does it work off of DC? Don't know. DC Workshop sells the Opus chargers on Ebay and they have a DC plug, don't know if it will work on this charger though. They are based in Sacramento The case is made of hard plastic and looks and feels very durable. There are two buttons on each side to control each function, Mode, Display, Current, and Slot. I read somewhere that there was a concern that they might eventually break because they are pressed plastic, but they appear to be durable. The display lights up when you plug it in and stays on. There are five modes of operation; Charge, Discharge, Charge/refresh, Charge/test, and Quick test. You can insert one to four batteries and perform 1 operation on all the batteries with just one setting or perform different operations by using the slot button and set each one indepentally. You can also check on their progress by toggling the display button. It will show you the Charge/Discharge Current, Elapsed Time, Accumulated Capacity, and Voltage. Pretty cool. I also need to mention that this charger will recharge several different rechargeable batteries, 6KR61, 6HR61, 7.2V, 8.4V, and 9.6V. Another nice feature is that you van set it and forget it. When the operation is done it will perform a trickle charge until you remove the batteries or unplug it. If you just want to charge your battery fast with a lot of current then go for the cheap one-size-fits-all chargers, but if you want to take care of them and even restore some poor performers, I would highly recommend this charger.Read full review

The BT-C96 has been replaced by the BT-C900 model. (I have one of each.) The Opus testers have quality control problems. Other reviews complain about the switches - which can fail if you abuse them but are generally fine. My C96 has worked for about 20 batches of 4 batteries so far without a problem. The "newer" C900 had two bad slots for the first few batches of batteries and failed completely by the third batch. Overall though, for the price, and considering my good luck with the C96 so far, I am willing to return the C900 and get another.

This is the only charger re-conditioner for all types of 9V NiMH batteries I know off, its unique. Most consumers aren't aware that 9V NiMH batteries are actually battery packs that should be reconditioned periodically to keep its rated mAh. I did this manually using an e-load for many years. Packs are best kept charged as when depleted there is a higher chance of reverse polarization of some cells in the battery, which causes fatal damage. The characteristics of the prior model of this line, BT-C900, were evaluated and online, back around 2015. Instructions are very well written in English, the device has no hard or soft bugs, and works as designed. Unusual for a niche item.

I bought this 9 volt charger just to keep our church microphones charged but it does much more than the old charger. It tests, charges, discharges and updates charge memory, keeps batteries topped off and more. I like it much more than my old standard charger.

Much more than just a charger, so if anyone is reluctant to buy one, don't be, you WILL not be disappointed.
