    Your Top Choice for a DVD Player

    As Blu Ray gives way to 4K, with other / later tech on the way, DVD players are no longer a hot or current category. That said, I still use mine regularly. As a longtime hobbyist, I've looked into this subject pretty thoroughly, and have owned several other brands and models of player. The Oppo 980 is the best of breed that I ever found. The resolution "up-converting" may be more of an illusory gimmick than anything substantial -- I'm not sure -- but the results are satisfying. Probably one of the player's most important features is its ability to ignore disc region stipulations (this may require a firmware change -- I don't recall, offhand), and to convert PAL format to NTSC within the player (no extra equipment required) and on the fly. This is a real boon for anyone who wishes ...

    the Rolls Royce of dvd players.

    the 980 seems to be the last model to have both component and hdmi connections. Whlle it does not support blu ray, it does support the10 million or so titles that exist in the planet's cinema archives. The OPPO is a great machine. Top o the line for dvd players, and the company is located in menlo park california. When i opened the package, it looked as if the original owner had tried to play it. There was a disc in the tray. The setup, however, was not set for "region free" , so need that little adjustment.

    Cheap CD Transport

    I purchased this unit as a CD transport. It is good build quality and has a good remote and sturdy buttons on the chassis. I have not tried the DVD function but I would assume it works well.
