SynopsisEchoes From The Set chronicles the filmmakers and the new era of filmmaking in the '60s and 70s that emerged in America from influences such as "La Nouvelle Vague" in France, the "German New Wave" and the "Czech Miracle Artists," all which helped create the "New Hollywood." Katherine traces other influences of this New American Cinema to a place the revered New York experimental filmmaker Stan Brakage called "The Poetic Cinema Capitol of the World: Eugene, Oregon" Not coincidently, this was the home of Ken Kesey and The Merry Pranksters. Ken Kesey had written his first world-shattering novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest in 1962, and soon became established as a world-class author, a cultural icon, filmmaker and visual artist. Hollywood star Kirk Douglas optioned the film-rights to the novel, while still in galley form. Soon after, others, including Jack Nicholson, Dennis Hopper, Paul Newman and Michael Douglas, were making pilgrimages to Kesey Country, looking for and optioning rights to literary works with that Oregon Cinematic Literary Voice, including works by other Oregon authors and cinematic writers like Rick Steber, Don Berry and Skip Cosper. From Five Easy Pieces and Sometimes a Great Notion, through 50 years of filming in Oregon, all the way to the recent Meek's Cutoff, Katherine traces reverberations of these echoes from the set to the call of this incredible poetic voice. Book jacket., During her decades-long career in film, author Katherine Ann Wilson has amassed an amazing collection of movie memorabilia from 50 different major motion pictures. There are close to 500 photographs of these artifacts, from wardrobe sketches to call sheets, and some rather encyclopedic items like images of crew badges and set cranes. Katherine has been a mentor for film students as well--starting them as gofers, teaching them set etiquette, then taking them all the way through screenplay, set design, camera composition, auditioning, editing, soundtrack composition, copyright, marketing, premieres, film festivals, and world-wide distribution. More than a resource for film mentors like Katherine, this book answers the most unanswered question: How did you get into the movie business? For readers wanting to know how to stay in it, and how to succeed in it, Katherine delves into the art of filmmaking and her personal experiences.
