Product Information

Along with Black Beauty and the Black Stallion, Flicka is one of the most memorable equines in film and literature. This set collects three classic films that begin with the unruly horse: MY FRIEND FLICKA, THUNDERHEAD: SON OF FLICKA, and GREEN GRASS OF WYOMING. These family films from the 1940s follow Ken McLaughlin (Roddy McDowell in the first two films) as he attempts to train a number of horses, including the original animal, Flicka. A 2006 film, simply called FLICKA, switches the gender of the young protagonist to a girl, played by Alison Lohman.

    THE BOOKS WRITTEN ABOUT FLICKA THUNDERHEAD AND GREEN GRASS OF WYOMING ARE SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE MOVIES

    I love reading certain books especially horse literature, I loved My friend Flicka and Thunderhead and Green Grass of Wyoming. I was so happy to read these books, then I like to watch the movie after I have read the book in most cases. I was impressed by many good things in the movie, such time period movies, the clothes the way the movie actually changed the story. I loved comparing the movie to the books, boy Hollywood did a strange job managing the story to screen, A brother was changed into a little girl, the stallion that is killed is not killed in the original stories. It was such a misrepresentation of the original stories I was actually shocked. So interesting this manipulation of media, but still so interesting to watch.

    Horse Lovers Paridise

    I have looked high and low for Green Grass of Wyoming. Hard to find on its own. All three Flicka movies are a horse lovers paradise and the scenery is spectacular. There is a lot of nostalgia in each movie and I love watching them every so often.
