  • Done Right the First Time

Kit contains high quality materials. Instructions are difficult to understand. Installation is difficult but do-able by someone who has experience repairing appliances. Photos: 1. Old plastic evaporator housing which is removed and thrown away. 2. Remove ice auger bracket with thin vice grip pliers locked on shaft and wrench (bar) to remove bracket clockwise so motor et al can be removed from old plastic air handler housing. Old housing is discarded. 3. Silicone spray is used to help pull wires back through white vinyl seal and to remove black foam seal from back side of long ice tray housing. 4. Two piece aluminum shield is installed on front and back of evaporator coils and secured with aluminum tape. Electrical wire must be in front (not in back like in photo) in order for new air handler housing to fit over it. 5. New air handler housing in position with fan, auger motor and solenoid moved into it from old housing. Additional notes: Fan label goes to front of housing. Fan is in front of housing and new black foam seal holds it in place. Bottom of aluminum shield must touch defrost pipe so heat is conducted during defrost cycle to melt all frost buildup. Ice tray should fill up within 36 hours. Defrost can be turned on by holding + and - down for 7 seconds or more until you see "d f".

  • Solved the problem

This kit resolved the air leak problem inherent with these refrigerators. Got tired of manually defrosting this thing with a steamer every week, to squelch the fan noise. The ice maker now works properly as well. A bit of a pain to install, and somewhat time consuming, but a lot cheaper than buying a new fridge. This is a Sears - Kenmore refrigerator 253.7031*3211, same as the Frigidaire models with similar issues.

  • A good upgrade.

A good upgrade to the bad original designed icemaker. It takes a while to install but should stop the icing problem with this icemaker. It has been installed for a little over a week and so far no problems.

  • Ice maker upgrade

Would not be necessary if the ice maker had been properly engineered. Should have been available for free from the manufacturer, but highly recommended.
