    The "GO TO" DVD burner.

    I've used LITE-ON products for a long time and for me they are the go to DVD Player/Burner. It worked for me right out of the box. However I am not going to install the included software. Nero 12 Essentials in this case is a trial version, and I'm just not going to deal with the pop-ups to upgrade I would see, if I did. I'll use another program.

    Reliable drive

    My computer had a marginal Samsung DVD drive that was giving me fits. It read most disks, but failed on a large minority. I looked for a replacement and found this LiteOn. I remembered having a LiteOn drive in a previous computer that never gave any problems at all. Decided to get this one -- a well-recommended LiteOn at a reasonable price. It read every disk I tried, including all the disks that the old one would not read.
