First of all,I am a Monkees fan.I grew up watching the Monkees on tv and had almost all of their albums.I did have this one here. This was actually my very first Monkees record.I'll only give my review on this album from an adult point of view, and not from a pre-teen's point of view when I had this album in the 60's.Of course back then, all of the songs were fine as a kid. I just turned 50 years old and I guess I am having my mid-life crisis.I purchased a 1972 Chevelle a couple of years ago,and in the process of restoring it.Music is my passion,I'm a drummer of 30+ years,so I've had a lot of albums and CDs in my life. I bought this CD due to technology.Since most of the original albums of many artists are on master tapes, technology has allowed those to transfer these great albums onto digital CDs.So in purchasing this CD,I get to hear some of my favorite songs from days past. Now to this review:This album is the second Monkee album released. This album has two of the Monkees' biggest hits,I'm Not Your Steppin Stone and I'm A Believer.Another great song here,is Mary,Mary, which was written by Mike Nesmith and sang by Mickey Dolenz.Davy Jones gives great vocals on,When Love Comes Knockin at Your Door as well. The light-hearted,Your Auntie Grizelda, sang by Peter Tork,is simply put,a fun song.On the song,Hold On Girl,Davy does the vocals, but what I really like,is the harpsicord in the song and the timbales for accent. The song Laugh,is also another light-hearted song, that should perk up anyone when they are down.Look out,Here Comes Tomorrow,is another great song, written by the awesome,Neil Diamond and sang by Davy Jones.Another song from the song-writing genius Michael Nesmith,is The Kind of Girl I could Love.My two least favorite songs on the album are,The Day We Fall in Love, sang by Davy, and Sometime in the Morning, sang by Mickey.During this time period, the Monkees primarily, did not write their own material, with the exception of Mike Nesmith;and he actually had been writing even from the very first album, namely,Papa Gene's Blues and Sweet Young Thing. So due to that fact, not all of the Monkees songs were always really good songs. Some really weren't worth recording, but those decisions were not completely left up to the Monkees themselves. As a Monkees fan,all of their albums/CDs,are worth purchasing, especially if you grew up with the Monkees as I did.Yes,some songs are better than others, but that doesn't matter. The music of the Monkees,is fresh. It does not sound dated,as some music does,so as to know exactly what decade it was from.To me,the Monkees songs sound as if they could be brand new songs, current with today's style. I recommend this Cd and all of the rest of the Monkees Cds as well.Read full review
If you like the Monkees Music, T V show reruns or just like easy listening or bubble gum sounds, I think you would really enjoy listening to this music CD. I have always enjoyed their music and am a follower from way back at the beginning. I guess that should make me old but listening to this music reminds me as long as I can remember the 60's music I will never get old!

I'm a big fan of the group and I didn't have this particular album. I really enjoyed it. Thanks, Walt.

I have the Rhino LP which I loved as a teenager; however thanks to modern technology and records getting scratched easily, I decided to part with a few bucks for this CD. The sound quality is great and clear...in fact, the same as on my record, I could hear Davy Jones tuning his voice at the very beginning of "When Love Comes Knocking." And the bonus tracks are a plus...I had never known there was an alternate version of "I'm A Believer." I do prefer the single version but it is nice to listen to history. Hey hey!
good value for old rock and roll. cd in great shape.
