To be honest, I wasn't sure what I was getting into with the Kodak DC260. I had read a couple of intriguing reviews which, in summation, stated that this camera was once so far ahead of its time that it belongs more in the "now" than "then." So, when I stumbled upon a quality camera at a good price, I took the bait. Now, after a few weeks with the camera, I'd have to agree. Aside from its superficial bulk every little aspect of the camera is pin-point perfect. The LCD screen is large and clear. The flash is bright. Most important, at least to a point-and-shooter like myself, the DC260 is extraordinarily user-friendly. It takes me by the hand and it seems to say, "Relax! Exhale... Now ENJOY!" How nice to be reminded that gathering shots should be far more fun than stress-inducing. The best words I could link up to describe the DC260 would have to go something like this; The Kodak DC260 makes a novice feel like a pro right from the start. It is a rare specimen among thousands of digital cameras. All are well suited to capture an image but the DC260 truly captures a moment, a memory. So if you get a chance, go on and purchase this vintage piece. I'm certain it will impress you...and it might inspire or even reignite your zest for photography, regardless of your experience (or lack thereof).Read full review
This camera was actually the first thing I ever bought on eBay back in 2001 or 2002. Digital cameras, especially fixed-lens "point and shoot" units are what we call "disposable technology". As CCD's and lens technology advance and lower in price, many of the cameras we once paid top dollar for will fall by the wayside the way film cameras did once the digital revolution began. Having said that, Kodak's DC260 stands apart from the pack as a true survivor. If purchased for a low price, the DC260 will absolutely outshoot most plastic lens cameras with 5, 6, 7, or more megapixels. The high quality Ektenar lens has excellent optical zoom range, and the CCD produces crisp images worthy of print or web. I still use my original DC260 for eBaying purposes, and keep a second in the spare tire well of my car in case I am ever in an accident. This camera is slow. It is not entirely feature-packed. In fact, one of it's coolest features (aside from the zoom lens) was the live view screen which you will never want to use unless you plan on carrying plenty of batteries in your pocket. Add a CF card reader to the mix, and this camera will work with just about any computer. It's a spartan, solid camera for people that just enjoy taking photos with cool technology. If you're looking for a DC260 for any reason other than nostalgia, take a look at the DC290 as well. Also consider the Nikon Coolpix 950 which was equally revolutionary during 1999/200/2001. While every majour manufacturer has surpassed Kodak's original DC lineup with faster, smaller, and higher resolution units in the past decade, the shere nostalgia of the DC260's hefty and reliable frame should warrant any digital camera lover to do a quick search for a good deal on this old workhorse.Read full review
I PURCHASED THIS CAMERA AT EBAY USED AS A SECOND CAMERA. MY OLYMPIC IS NEWER AND MORE MEGA PIXEL AND A LOT MORE OPTICAL ZOOM BUT THIS ONE CAN RIVAL IT. I WAS SO AMAZED AT THE PICTURE QUALITY! HOW CAN A CAMERA FROM 1998 AND WITH JUST 1.6 MEGA PIXEL TAKE SUCH SUPER QUALITY AND DETAILED PICTURES? I HONESTLY CAN'T ANSWER THAT BUT IT'S TRUE! I NOW USE THIS CAMERA MUCH MORE THAN MY NEWER LIGHTER CAMERA. CONSIDERED THAT I SNATCHED THIS CAMERA FOR 26 BUCKS OUT THE DOOR AT EBAY WITHOUT ANY ACCESSORIES. I PURCHASED A 1GB COMPACTFLASH CARD AT MERIT.COM AND I CAN TAKE OVER 2000 PICTURES WITH THIS NOW!!!! WOW!!! I STICK MY COMPACTFLASH CARD IN MY CARD READER AND BOOM EASY TO LOAD. IT USES REGULAR AA BATTERIES A BIT FAST BUT JUST BUY 2500 OR ABOVE NIMH BATTERIES AND THEY SEEM TO LAST FOR EVER IN MY CAMERA. THIS CAMERA TRULY BLOWS MANY NEWER HIGHER PIXELS DIGITALS IN THE MARKET NOW OR JUST 3 YEARS BACK. THE ONLY COMPLAINT I HAVE IS THAT IT LOADS THE TAKEN PICTURE A BIT SLOW, YOU MUST WAIT FOR IT TO LOAD BEFORE YOU CAN TAKE ANOTHER PICTURE. IF YOU LOOKING FOR A INEXPENSIVE CAMERA THAT WILL TAKE NICE PICTURE IF DON'T NEED ALL THE NEWER FEATURES.Read full review
Picture quality is outstanding, better than most new cameras on the market -even with the low pixels. If you need a simple "true picture" camera - this is it. If you like a Lot of Bells & whistles then DO NOT BUY...It is a 1998 camera, with Super photo quality. Works great with XP as it was well before its time of Win98. Hard to use back then, now it is a simple usb attachment -connnect and download to pc or CD
This camera takes better pictures than I thought it would. I was impressed. Only problem was that it doesn't use today's standard memory. I had to buy the compactflash memory for it. Would definately recommend this camera.
This camera was a piece of junk. No life in the battery. No quite satisfied with the item; since purchase, I have not been able to use it. At least a good battery would have been nice. No cords,or any info was made available. As is really means as is. I am glad I didn't spend an arm and a leg.
Apparently the camera is one of the first digital cams they came out with and I didnt know that when I bought it so therefore I am sending it back to the person I got it from for a full refund. I want the kind I can upload pics to my computer and u cant do that with this one.
battery's didnt last 40 mins., this surprises me due to the fact that the display screen only came on Very breifly to show you a quick review of your picture. my children like that they could record audio to go with picture but i could never afford to keep up with the battery's.
camera was exactly what I needed at the time. I broke my original ones lens and needed a quick replacement. A little slow in loading photo's when taken, but takes nice photos.
JUNK!!!
