Synopsis
Lunacy was Nate Burke's last chance. As a Baltimore cop, he'd watched his partner die on the street-and the guilt still haunts him. With nowhere else to go, he accepts the job as Chief of Police in this tiny, remote Alaskan town. Aside from sorting out a run-in between a couple of motor vehicles and a moose, he finds his first weeks on the job are relatively quiet. But just as he wonders whether this has been all a big mistake, an unexpected kiss on New Year's Eve under the brilliant Northern Lights of the Alaska sky lifts his spirit and convinces him to stay just a little longer. Meg Galloway, born and raised in Lunacy, is used to being alone. She was a young girl when her father disappeared, and she has learned to be independent, flying her small plane, living on the outskirts of town with just her huskies for company. After her New Year's kiss with the Chief of Police, she allows herself to give in to passion-while remaining determined to keep things as simple as possible. But there's something about Nate's sad eyes that gets under her skin and warms her frozen heart. And now, things in Lunacy are heating up. Years ago, on one of the majestic mountains shadowing the town, a crime occurred that is unsolved to this day-and Nate suspects that a killer still walks the snowy streets. His investigation will unearth the secrets and suspicions that lurk beneath the placid surface, as well as bring out the big-city survival instincts that made him a cop in the first place. And his discovery will threaten the new life-and the new love-that he has finally found for himself.

  • The Best of the Best

While I am an admitted Nora Roberts fan this book easily exceeded my already positive expectations. The main character, a police detective in Baltimore, falls into a deep depression after his partner is killed. The story opens as he moves to Alaska to take the job of police chief for a small town. We get a taste of how different life there is, from chasing an angry moose out of the school yard to safely walking down the street during a blizzard. The fast paced book is full of quirky, but very believable characters. An old murder, and the fallout from it test our police chief's detective abilities. This book is a wonderful read, but start it when you have some time because you won't want to put it down. As a side comment i think this book would appeal to men much more than the usual ...

  • What a fun read. It had me guessing until the end!

The story takes place in Lunacy, Alaska. The main characters are Nate Burke and Meg Galloway. Nate is the new Lunacy Chief of Police and Meg is owner and pilot for Lunatic Air. I thought this was a romance book until about a quarter of the way through and suddenly it turns into a murder mystery. The plot had several twists and turns and I couldn't be sure who was the murderer. The characters are vivid and interesting. The descriptions of Alaska and life in Alaska are vibrant. What's not to like?

  • Excellent read

Nora Roberts is one of my favorite authors.Northern Lights, set in Alaska, is a romance murder mystery novel.Accurate description of Alaskan life. Just enough information about characters to keep you wondering.I felt the story line would have been just as effective using less four letter words. One or two romance scenes too many.Main female character's mother is annoying. By over looking my personal critizism it is an excellent read and I highly recommend it.

  • Northern Lights by Nora Roberts

I bought this book because Nora Roberts is one of my favorite authors. As usual the book was excellent and I was compelled to read it cover to cover without putting it down. The story is set in Alaska which is a place I've never been but would love to visit. The Northern Lights are fascinating to me and I plan to see them some day. The story has an incredible plot which includes romance, sex, murder and intrigue with several surprises along the way. I would recommend it to anyone and have in fact loaned it to a friend already.
