Good little remote chime (but one drawback on a few)
I've been collecting these things for awhile, now, and I think I can speak with a bit of authority on them. We use ours for church activities and events - VBS, for one. I scatter several around in different rooms and areas and have a programmable timer set to activate them simultaneously at the intervals we need for the occasion. (I even have a 24 v.d.c. horn outside which activates with what's called a "universal module.") Most every last one of these chimes I've ordered has worked fine. But . . . . There are a FEW which are not as loud as others. This troubles me as to the quality control of their manufacturing process. I usually try to put the "softer" ones in places which have less ambient noise. But I kinda feel a bit "cheated" in paying the same price for ones which don't put out ... On a positive note, I've never got ahold of ANY "X-10" module which did not work well with any of the three controllers we have (multi-keypad "mini console," wireless and programmable) The "chime" is similar to a doorbell, only much more metallic-sounding. I remember an older model which really belted out a healthy "ding-dong; ding-dong" quite loudly. For some reason, the newer models (ones available now) aren't as loud and play a different "tune." All in all, the value of these remotely-operated chimes, along with the myriad of other "X-10" modules is super! It would've taken hundreds and hundreds of $$$$ years ago to put in a wired system to do the same job. I think schools which use the programmed "bell" systems for changing classes throughout the school day are in the thousands - perhaps TENS of thousands, recalling how some of these specialty control companies charge institutions run by tax dollars "through the nose" these days! But that's beside the point. Get as many of these chime modules as you need, stick 'em in any 115 v. receptacle (that's on the same electrical distribution box as the contoller's plugged into) and you're good to go with remotely notifying people of whatever it is you're remotely notifying them about. 'Best thing since buttered bread!

Our environment doesn't need more radio-frequency interference produced by the newer technology. This chime is doing yeoman-duty by notifing worker/artists when the art-gallerie's front-door opens, so they may help the shopper/browsers admire their favorite type of art. In this installation, the door to chime distance is about 85 feet, and the chime has been highly-accurate. Not using the local-router's wi-fi also improves the fidelity of credit-card digital-communications.
