Civ and xcom are the best turn based games on the market, and are a must-own for sure, I love using steam, and its nice to have all your games in one library instead of a bunch of disks.

I like the Civ V game play and grahics, but the fact that it has be played through Steam is very inconvenient for me. Buying a disk copy of a game I expected to be able to play it offline without ever having to be on the internet. It turns out that in order to play the game you have to first load steam be on the internet site and then you can access the game content. For someone who like to play games while not on the internet this situation far less than ideal.

I love the Civilization Franchise and I love Civilization V. However, I hate the network it runs on and the frequency of its crashes. Steam is probably the worst gaming application ever. You need to have steam running all the time to play Civ V and you have to have an internet connection. Civ V also crashes every single time I play it. It used to play for a about 400 turns, but now it crashes almost as soon as I get to the main menu. I think the game play is magnificent and the hex grid and combat revisions were genius, however the game is probably the most crash ridden and totally unstable game that has been released in the last 5 years, no thanks to steam which I think is the most idiotic thing that Sid Meier could have done by incorporating it into Civ V. I'm giving this game 3 stars instead of 1 only because of the marvelous gameplay once you get past the crashes. However I can't even experience the gameplay anymore because of them. Please fix this game!!!!!!!!!Read full review
This game has great graphics and great potential. There are a lot of things I do like about this game - only problem is I am never able to finish a game before the game freezes us and crashes. HUGE problem is this game is very unstable no matter how powerful a computer you have. In some cases, the game won't play at all. In some cases when it does play, afte so many turns it sloowwwsss down and then comes to a standstill. It is obvious to many people playing this game that the company launched a game still in Beta stage and eventually the game may become great when they make enough patches for it. My strongest advice to anyone reading this is: DO NOT buy this game for at least 6 months or a year until it has been fully patched and fixed or you will have problems. If you insist on playing this game, make sure you have a computer that is at least Core 2 Duo, a very good graphics card and lots of memory. And don't play maps that are huge - stick so small maps with only a few civilizations. Then, and only then, will you perhaps actually be able to complete a game.Read full review
Civilization 5 is the latest and greatest in this genre. They bring together many of the best elements of past games into one. Adding in updated graphics with a large tech tree makes for an enjoyable game. Graphics: Much improved over past civilization games. Game play: Decide how you want to win. Win through war or by peaceful achievements. Choose your leader accordingly as they have special abilities that will help you achieve your goal. There is a lot going on at one time with in your own borders. Fortunately there are pop up advisors to help you understand what is going on. You can choose to listen to/read a short paragraph of what they have to say, or simply close there window and go on your way. Pros: Better combat system is now based on strategy. Core game play is overall great! You can add in gamer mods through the user interface. Cons: You can't force your religion or culture on others. Instead you increase it within your own population. Sometimes other nations will be aggressive along your borders, forcing you to win via military, even if you were going for a science or overall score victory. Diplomacy is still lacking, making it difficult to trade with others, though they will offer to trade with you with there own ideals. Other thoughts: You won't be disappointed in purchasing this game. This is the 4th installment of a great strategy game. If you have never played Civilization; here is a quick summary. Basically you can choose to lead one, of several former empires, like Egypt, Japan, Rome, Russia, etc. The game starts you off in the Stone Age. From there, you must lead your people from the stone age thru modern times. This is done buy finding, storing and utilizing resources, whether food, gold, iron, etc. while maintaining a delicate balance between your empire’s happiness, your military, religion, science, technology, etc. During game play, you must continually build, expand and maintain your empire, while conversing, trading goods, or declaring war with other empires. The winner is determined by the first empire to either build the United Nations or be the first in space. As you can imagine, it will take many hours of game play to accomplish either feat from the stone age. You must have an internet connection and a free Stream account to play. So, be careful about purchasing the game used. If the previous owner has registered the game, you will not be able to play.Read full review
An ebayer was selling a PC game. Well, he didn't mention the product key was used by him making the game useless to anyone else. Went the game showed up at my house the plastic seal was still in place and have not been broken. He didn't have time in description to say he had used the 25 digit product key with the maker of the PC game and registered. He left it for me to figure out. Oh, he said that he played for a week and it was perfect condition at the very end of description after the company lingo that tells about the games features and what’s new about their new game. I think eBay should change their policy about used PC game, NO matter what the condition shouldn’t be listed on eBay. In days of yesteryear PC games didn't require a product key thus anyone can play the game when they received it. But now, companies found out they could sell more games by putting the 25 digit product key for each game. I think eBay should change their company policy about used computer games that requires a registration. New games that are sealed would be fine everyone is protected. As for an ebayer who tries to list a game that requires a registration key that has been used by the prior owner. Trading privileges should be halted indefinitely if not forever. We people who used eBay for most of our shopping. I shouldn’t have to worry about being scammed on a regular basis. Ebay should review its policies and make the necessary changes to protect the honesty people and punish who don’t follow the rules.Read full review
I have played all the CIVs so far. I like this game also. Different feel with the city states interactions, etc. I like the non stacked military units, adds more subtlty to the game by eliminating the massive stacks of units. Appears to be more diplomatic options for victory but haven't played enough games to find out yet. I play many games via PBEM so am greatly disapponited to discover that this game does not support that. Live MP is fine but I do not have the time to play it that way. Good game, nicely done, but some of the gameplay options are missing which makes the game less appealing to me.
For any strategy game fan, this title is a must have. The new added features of city-states and much improved graphics make for an enjoyable experience. I didn't think there was a whole lot of room to expand on Civ IV, but I was wrong. The new map interface uses hexagons instead of square spaces and the entire battle sequence is much better. You cannot stack units anymore, but you can used ranged units to attack from a few spaces back. Overall, a great game and a must have.
An incredible game that is perfect for the turn-based strategy nuts like me. It does have a learning curve if you are new to the Civ series but it does a good job of getting you into the mechanics and showing you how to play. Several civilizations to choose from and each one provides a unique experience that makes this game have TONS of replay and exciting gameplay. I have fallen in love with this game and can not get enough. I will be buying the expansions set for it soon and I recommend this game to everyone. 5/5
