The Walking Dead series is pure joy - to zombie fans that is. I cannot imagine grandma finding joy in rotting corpses that come back to feast on the living. But I was soooo happy to find this series. First of all, I am a HUGE George A Romero fan. I love horror movies, especially zombie ones. Even bad horror movies find a special place in my heart. So I am wondering how long will it be before this great series is made into a movie. It would work better as a tv series since it is an ongoing series that even Kirman has said has no end in sight. This series has a sharp script and gory artwork. The story is not just about a group of people trying to survive but about how they survive. Their relationships are the main focus of the story, the zombies are what force them into these situations. This book will just make you want them all, so be ready to buy them all (there are 4 volumes of the collected singles so far and a 5th one coming out in December '06). They are worth every penny!Read full review
The Walking Dead series created by writer Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore combines two unique genres - Zombie/Living Dead fiction writing with Comic Book Art and Storytelling. Yes there is a difference between the telling of a story and the comic book telling of a story! But anyway, this is your basic retelling of a post apocolyptic world where the protagonist, Kentucky police officer Rick Grimes, awakes to the nightmare of his surroundings in a hospital room (ala 28 Days Later) and fights for survival as well as figure out what has happended to his family. He meets people along the way and eventually hooks up with a band of survivors living out in the woods, including his wife...and his partner on the force. That is where the similarites to the movie end though. Kirkman uses the same slow, determined zombies that we all know and love that George A. Romero first made popular with Night of the Living Dead! I really don't want to give up too much of the story, but to also say that the art illistrations are very well crafted albeit a little rough looking at first. But you get used it quickly and it then you find that it does actually fit well with the story..and is very good. It could also be that I'm not much into comic books that it took a minute for me to adjust. Volume 1 is short, but gets you hooked into the story. It is a great addition to anyones collection of zombie fiction and may as well be a collectors item someday.Read full review
Great book (comic book). It was my fist time reading a book from Robert Kirkman. I am still waiting for the next volumes to arrive,so that I can follow Ofc. Grimes adventures. Worth the money to purchase!!
i like this book alot. it has excellent art in it and the story does draw a reader in. the story follows rick and his family, on a desperate hunt to find food, and the rest of humanity. i will personally continue the series and purchase the remaining set.
One of the best zombie comic books ever! The story is mostly about the humans and how they deal with the ongoing apocalypse and how they grow. There are plenty of twists and turns. Better if you like romero over return of the living dead.
