    Good amp but no remote

    This replaces a similar Sony that has to fit into a tight space, only 12" deep. Works great but it came with no remote, which is clearly pictured in the ad. Luckily the remote for my old amp works with the new one, otherwise I would have given 2 stars. Great sound though, no complaint there.

    Disappointment for being a Sony

    Does not power surround sound speakers correctly. The pro-logic controller struggles with the 5.1 surround output. whereas some speakers burst forth with sound at the wrong times, making a cacophony of sound instead of music. It might do better on older units but I doubt it.

    5.1 Stereo at its BEST.

    The SONY STR DE685 500 watt receiver does it all. Inputs and outputs for everey conceivable equipment configuration. Excellent sound reproduction that can be shaped to your liking in a variety of ways; some automatic, some manual. What I dislike about it is that the manual was poorly translated, likely from Japanese. It is NOT clear nor very understandable. While this receiver has numerous adjustments, making them is NOT intuitive. It is NOT "user friendly." There are some features that I have NEVER been able to learn how to use! HOWEVER, in the end, the reason you buy a receiver or amplifier is for the sound. Connect this unit to decent speakers and you will be surrounded with superb sound quality. As for those who sold this amp is favor of a system with MORE speakers I ask - ...

    Awesome! Powerful! Satisfying!

    Really liked thIs item. My old surround sound went out that I had for over 10 years and I needed a replacement. ThIs unit really fit the bill. Performance it's great, sound is great, I'm hearing sounds from my speakers I didn't knew existed. It was a bit tricky to go in and get the settings just like I wanted them, but after a couple of hours of playing around in the settings, I finally got the sounds just like I like it. The unit has a lot of features I like that my old system just did not have, like the ability to choose different pre set surround modes for different movies. Also, the power of the unit is awesome. My last unit was 500 watts also, but it did not sound like this one though. I can turn this baby up and still have power and volume to spare. I'm not just looking at moves and ...

    Good transaction good product

    My old Sony STR died. New models do not have the features of this model so I searched ebay. The one I bought was received as advertised. I t even came on the original box and packaging. There was one problem with it however. One of the 3 inputs that I needed was dead. That means the opto-isolation was probably fried. All of the other features work perfectly. Since I have my old one I will be able to repair the dead input, so I'm good. The price made this a very good buy. Shipped and presented accurately in the listing with the exception of the dead input.
