About this product

Product Information

The Grace children discover the faerie world is closer than you think in this repackage of the first book in the #1 New York Times bestselling Spiderwick Chronicles. After finding a mysterious, handmade field guide in the attic of the ramshackle old mansion they've just moved into, Jared; his twin brother, Simon; and their older sister, Mallory, discover that there's a magical and maybe dangerous world existing parallel to our own--the world of faerie. The Grace children want to share their story, but the faeries will do everything possible to stop them... In honor of the tenth anniversary of the #1 New York Times bestselling Spiderwick Chronicles series, which has more than 12 million copies in print worldwide, this edition of The Field Guide features a larger trim size and an original cover with all-new art from Tony DiTerlizzi.

  • A bit of a teaser...

I have always wanted to check out these interesting Spiderwick books for kids. The graphics on the front covers are very alluring and beckons the reader to "come inside". The Field Guide is the 1st book of the series and starts with the Grace children moving into a dilapitated old Victorian home after their parents get a divorce. After moving in and hearing odd noises inside the walls is when things get weird...Both authors do a grand job of mixing reality with fantasy. Warning: you will get SO engrossed that all too soon the book ends...ahhhhh! A little frustrating. Great for kids though, because the books are at a fast pace and are "not too thick" to get through. ****4 stars

  • Excellent Book for Young Readers

I purchased several copies of this book to use for a 3rd grade advanced readers group, and the children love it. The only downside is that the story is just getting started by the end of Book 1, and you will have to continue through the series of books in order to complete the story. The story begins as twin boys (age 9) and their big sister (age 13) move with their mother to a large, dilapidated house after their parents divorce. Some real world issues mixed with lots of fantasy. Some of the vocabulary is challenging for young readers, but the story appeals to both boys and girls.

  • The Field Guide

My first purchase and adventure into the Spiderwick Chronicles. The Field Guide sets the premise for the story and provides wonderful illustrations to go with the charming story. In the first few pages I felt like the book might scare young children, however, as I continued reading I knew that every child would fall in love with the characters and the adventure. After completing the first book you cannot avoid purchasing the next four books to complete the Spiderwick adventure. A perfectly enchanting story for children and adults. You cannot help but look for fairies under every rock.
