The shift to the metal cleat plate in the 105 5700 line is a welcome addition to durability. These pedals weigh effectively the same as the Ultegra 6700 counterparts, I have heard that the bearings are of lower quality but have had no issues or evidence that this is the case. If you use Shimano pedals I highly recommend getting a set with the metal plate that sits between your cleat and the pedal (as opposed to the plastic plate in the 5600 type and other earlier series) as this plastic wears out very fast becomes a cumbersome to replace so often and if you do not regularly inspect your pedals then the cleat will quickly wear through the plastic and into some of the metal on the cleat pedal interface leading to a non trivial amount of play between the cleat and the pedal (as happened to me this is very evident switching from one pedal to another with the same cleats). This happens slowly over time so you don't really notice until it is too late. These pedals are one of the cheapest Shimano pedal that I have found that has this feature and is a good buy in my opinion. Similar products I own: 1 x 6500 pedals 1 x 5700 pedals 2 x 6700 pedals I think they all work well and there is not much to go wrong with a pedal but would definitely recommend something with the metal plate.Read full review
