Notes
Dan Snaith, under the guise of Caribou (formerly Manitoba), has been producing critically acclaimed albums for six years now, each an impressive development on the previous one. For his Merge debut, he marries the kaleidoscopic grandeur he's known for with pop melodies and harmonies crammed densely together. The album is vividly three-dimensional, it's hard to believe it was performed and recorded entirely by Snaith at home, save for vocal and songwriting contributions by friend/tour mate Junior Boy's Jeremy Greenspan on one track.

I've bought from them a few times, and every time the records arrive just as described and well packed for shipping. Their prices for the EU releases I want have been far better than any other sellers. So I will continue to buy vinyl from them, knowing that they maintain a high level of customer support & communication.

If you like the music of the soft pop era, particularly with the production values of Curt Boettcher and the entire California sound of the late sixties, this is for you. But just to catagorize this as a knock-off album would be unfair. The beats are more driving and there is quite a bit more at work here, including an edge that is missing from its predecessors. Like the Besnard Lakes, this is brilliant, singular work--stuff you can readily pick out the influences of, but don't care, because it stands so well on its own.
