If you like fast lenses this one's for you.
There are two reasons for buying a fast lens: 1. Bokeh. 2. Low light performance. I have both the 24/1.8 and her fatter sister, the 20/1.8. Both are sufficiently sharp ( not as sharp as a 90/2.8 macro but not bad, even wide open). Much better than most zooms. I haven't got a chance yet to compare with the new f/1.4 wide sigmas, which would be interesting to see. F/1.8 makes the lens good in low light / indoors etc. I wouldn't buy this lens just for the bokeh though - it is too short for bokeh to matter too much, especially on full frame - and there is no good reason to use this monster on aps-c with other options available for crop sensors. The 24/1.8 is well built; one problem is the spring that holds the aperture arm in place (on sony mount). It can fall off its place blocking the ... There are two reasons for buying a fast lens: 1.
