I bought Wave for a friend's child and was delighted by the illustrations of the ocean's waves throughout the book; however, this picture book has almost nothing beyond that: pictures of waves, a little girl, and her mom from the waist down. I suppose this makes sense, but I think that even the semblance of story structure would work well in elevating this book from cute pictures to bedtime reading story.
I bought this book as a gift for my mom because she loves the beach. It is a beautiful picture book for any age. I had seen it at the library and my kids enjoyed looking at it as well. Fantastic paintings tell the story of a little girl playing on the beach with the waves. There are no words, so my little boy could "read" it to me by telling me the story of what he saw on the pages. I definitely would recommend this book, and I will probably buy more copies of it in the future for others!
This is a beautiful wordless book. It has special significance to me because a student of mine with autism for the first time engaged in labeling and pretend storytelling with this book. It is a memory that will last with me for all time. I purchased a copy so that he could "tell" the story to his family like he did at school. For this reason it will always be a special book. We live and work near Tampa Bay and water and waves are valuable memories for children here.
Who says a story needs words?! I love the art work and how the artist says so much in every single picture. I had to have this delightful depiction of a child's view of the power of a Wave! Can't wait to share it!
