As an avid F1 fan, i needed an F1 simulator. And of course i wanted the most current one, but i do not own a PS3 nor have the money to purchase one. F1 career challenge is an excellent inexpensive F1 game to settle for. Different types of gameplay included are career mode, quick race (single player), and multiplayer. The game has race calendars, teams, and drivers from the 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002 seasons. In quick race and multiplayer modes, you can choose what season you want to race from, then choose any driver and any track from the season in which you choose. in career mode, you start off by creating your own character. Nothing too special about this feature. You choose from various generic faces to represent yourself, the name you create can only be a max of about 8-10 characters, and you get to choose what the 3 letter abbreviation of your name will be for the running order displayed during the race. You also get to choose a helmet design (about 7 choices), and what country you are from (plenty to choose from). Then on to completing license tests, similar to those found in the Gran Turismo series, except you are in a generic F1 car modeled from the 1999 season. Once the license tests have been completed, you are given the option to join 1 of 3 F1 teams offered according to your performances during the license tests. Then you begin racing in career mode. You start off in the beginning of the 1999 season. As the season progresses, your racing performances and results are logged. In your 'Driving Reputation,' your progress is represented on a grid timeline. Basically every time you reach a new horizontal line on the grid (representing your reputation) 3 teams offer you the chance to drive for them. As you get better, the teams asking for you get better. Each race weekend has a practice session, a qualifying session, and a 6-8 lap long race, depending on the distance of the track. Integrated pit stop strategy is involved in each race (one stop). FIA rules are also in effect during the race (speeding in the pits, overtaking under a yellow flag, etc...) and you are penalized according to the penalty you commit. Weather can also change in each race, whether it's sunny, rainy, or a mix of both. Crashes are nowhere near realistic. It takes more than just a few bumps against the wall to take you out of a race, but it is possible. Your engine can overheat, you can lose the gear box (both of which require you to return to the pits), and you can even lose a front wing, rear wing, or a tire. Various race weekends include a 'test scenario' as well. in a test scenario you are given a random task in which passing it would benefit your racing experience. No big deal, it is optional to do it if available. The driving style is simulator, not arcade, similar to Gran Turismo as well. You can choose from an automatic or manual gearbox, and can also adjust various car settings during each race weekend. These are pretty much the pros. Cons of the game are small, but do matter at some point i guess. One is you do not get to choose what weather tire you want to use, the game chooses for you. I have been in a race where rain was expected and i was put on wets, but rain never came. Another con is sometimes the on board radio cuts off. For this you have to restart your PS2 altogether, but still not a big deal. Overall i would recommend this game to anyone who is a fan of F1 and does not necessarily care about the season(s) represented in the game.Read full review

Ebay experience on this purchase was good but for some reason I cannot play this game with Logitech wheel. I have Gran Turismo 3 and 4. I can play these but F1 C Challenge, not. Joy stick works with this game but there is no joy using joy stick for me while playing a driving game. I haven't tried to play this game since then. I give average rating, but it's only because I must mark off something to submit my review.
I'm a big fan of Formula 1 and this is a great game. I like the whole way that the game is structured with your development up from a rookie. The game play is also very good compared to previous years.
