The folks at WWE Home Video have pulled off a major triumph by releasing a complete anthology of their annual event, the Royal Rumble. Unlike a traditional battle royal, where 20 (or more) participants begin in the ring at the same time and eliminate each other, this variation starts with 2 wrestlers and another man is added every minute or so until they all have entered. The first such event took place in 1988, and has become popular ever since. This 5-disc DVD set contains the first 5 Rumbles from 1988 to 1992. It is this set that is a classic collection. In addition to the Royal Rumble itself, there are also other bouts taking place; Steamboat vs. Rick Rude, Harley Race vs. Haku in a crown match, Duggan vs. Big Bossman, The Rockers vs. The Orient Express, Ultimate Warrior vs. Sgt. Slaughter for the WWE title, Roddy Piper vs. Mountie for Intercontinental title, Legion Of Doom vs. Natural Disasters for the Tag Team titles, and others. Tito Santana participated in all 5 of these Rumbles. The eventual winners would be "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, Big John Studd and Hulk Hogan, who would win back-to-back, twice. But, it was Ric Flair who made history in 1992 when he won the event and was thus crowned the undisputed WWE Champion. There are also commentaries from Vince McMahon, Jesse Ventura, Gorilla Monsoon, Tony Schiavone, Roddy Piper and Bobby Heenan, all calling the action for the play-by-play. These were the days! The 'Golden Era' of wrestling, great characters such as Rick Rude, Bret the Hitman Hart, Mr. Perfect and of course the Ultimate Warrior ALL IN THEIR PRIME!!! Many other great wrestlers and even great tag teams like Demolition, Legion of Doom and the Natural Disasters are all covered in these first 5 Royal Rumbles, it doesn't get any better than this.
