This game is GOOD - it's well thought out and it is VERY innovative - I'll get to that soon. But the issues are and will continue to be hardware limitations of the Xbox console. I find it hard to believe myself - the Xbox uses three processors and it can't do any better than this? At default game speeds the game play lags ferociously in larger battles. A review above suggested bumping up a game setting - doing this makes battles more manageable, but then makes "light" gameplay occur too fast - units move much quicker when the graphics aren't taxing the system, and the gameplay seems too accelerated. Another limit is the view size of the screen - many times you feel like your view of the action is limited by being too close to the ground. Large assault groups can quickly outgrow the view of the screen, making it very difficult to keep an eye on things. Even so, some units - especially within the Novus faction - are so incredibly small that they can get lost behind their own buildings, and smaller units can be nearly indistinguishable. This can be especially frustrating when trying to hastily issue build commands to construction robots in the heat of battle. Lastly, the voice acting of the in-game characters is attrocious. It doesn't affect game play, but makes you remorse having to turn up the volume to follow a story line!Read full review
Some people were saying on the net and game reviews that this game was not very good. I was reluctant to buy at first, until I Played the demo, got it home and WOW talk about a great game. This is most definitly worth it. People were evidently basing the game on the Graphics and camera angle, not the Story and Gameplay, which the graphics aren't bad at all just not Super HD CoD4 / Lost Odessy. Only part of the game that I can say does not match up to this amazing game is the camera angle that doesn't zoom out tremendously far. I cannot say enough about this severly underrated game! Reminds me very much of Warcraft 3 just with E.T.s not Orcs. Story A+ Game play A+ Controls B+ Graphics B+ Camera Angle C+ Over All: A to A- and I haven't even gotten to the on-line part of the game yet, this is just for the story mode.Read full review
I think the game could be great but unfortunately comes short to it. The idea is great and makes to lots of good battles. The 3 fractions are very different and give many options in the strategies used to crush the opponents. It takes a wile to get real fast and comfortable with all the different setting but once you got it it is a real good concept. What kills the game are the frame rate problems when playing online. If you have intense battles if stalls the game almost to a standstill. This is really unfortunate because stradegie wise it is quite a step up from Command And Conquer but the story deeps in the campaigns is weak and the frame rate is killing me.
Pretty entertaining but lacks sofistication. Like the hereos powers but the support soldiers are mostly useless. I like strategy games and this one ranks at abour 3/5. I would recommend it for those who just started playing strategy games and then they can move up from here.
Universe at War is an excellent console RTS. Any RTS fan would enjoy this game. It has excellent game variety, and alot of replay value. A definate must have.
