About this product

Product Information

A male-perspective confessional about being an adult--but not acting like one--HIGH FIDELITY is the story of Rob Gordon (John Cusack), the thirtysomething owner of Championship Vinyl, a record store in the suburbs of Chicago. Rob is in the throes of a difficult breakup with his girlfriend Laura (Iben Hjejle), and he creates a list of the ex-girlfriends who qualify as his Top Five Worst Breakups, then tracks them down one by one. At work, Rob's relationship with the geeky guys who help run the store, Dick (Todd Louiso) and Barry (Jack Black), is hilarious and juvenile: The three espouse encyclopedic knowledge of records while making lists of everything from the Top Five Side 1s and Track 1s to the Top Five Songs About Death. Director Stephen Frears works from a script based on the 1996 Nick Hornby novel of the same title, adapted by D.V. DeVincentis, Steve Pink, Cusack, and Scott Rosenberg. Frears integrates Cusack's signature goofball antics and gives him a series of talk-to-the-camera, Ferris Bueller-style monologues that Cusack delivers with personal ingenuity.

  • Sonic Death Monkey Rocks!

Based on the Nick Hornby novel of the same title, it's a pretty decent adaptation of the book. I do have some qualms about Americanizing non American books, and I enjoyed the book highly , so, I was quite adamant about seeing a film about it. Of course I still love the book, the film doesn't stray to far from Nick Hornby's novel, but it does give a different twist at the end. John Cusack brings a different light to the characters of the book and you'll especially like Jack Black as one of Rob's friends in the record shop. This was the first movie that I saw where Jack Black sang, and wow, can he sing! He gives his own rendition of Marvin Gaye's classic "Let's Get It On" towards the end of the film. The guys at the record shop do play the part of being music snobs to a tee and John Cusack ...

  • A romantic comedy from the male perspective

As a rule, I detest romantic comedies, but this is one major exception. Not only is the story told in a witty and intelligent manner, but it's told from the guy's perspective! One of the great shortcomings of most romantic comedies is the male characters are so poorly and shallowly written that male audience members simply cannot identify with them. John Cusack makes this film's protagonist real and multidimensional as he uses the metaphor of a mix tape to explore his past relationships and realign his life's priorities while reorganizing his record collection--autobiographically.

  • High Fidelity

This is an excellent movie. Full of dry humor for anyone who has ever been in a serious relationship. The story of being in love with comfort and desiring what you can't have is well played out in this movie. In addition, any music lover will love the soundtrack, as well as the instrumental role music plays in the plot itself. A must have for the movie collection!

  • Duh

Anyone who has seen this film knows it's the sh*t. As always, price could have been lower for an ancient DVD. Overall good buy.
