Kadee red fiber washers
Until you begin to upgrade legacy HO railcars to use Kadee Knuckle Couplers, you don’t realize the amount of tweaking required to get them to work properly. Luckily, Kadee actually makes all the tools and materials needed to do this. You soon discover that a coupler Standard height gauge is the first requirement and then you need an assortment of coupler types, short, medium and long shank, and also an assortment of coupler shank mountings, including center, overhead, and under head styles. And once you get the adjustment close, the final tweaking is easily accomplished using these fire washers, either directly in the coupler box or sometimes to shim up the car to truck height. These washers are just right for all those uses and the thickness is within the allowable tolerance ... Until you begin to upgrade legacy HO railcars to use Kadee Knuckle Couplers, you don’t realize the amount of tweaking required to get them to work properly. Essential Model RR accessory

Great for Athearn Blue Boxes with lower coupler heights
These are perfect for upgrading rolling stock and perfecting their coupler height. I had some old Athearn Blue Box freight cars that had droopy couplers that would catch on switches and by adding 1 or two of these to their trucks, it boosted the height up just enough so I have clearance and the couplers match the height of my other rolling stock pieces.

Great parts.
Having gotten back into model railroading after 50 some years, I'm realizing that acquiring rolling stock requires lots of maintenance to make them run right. These little washers allow me to adjust the cars so couplers connect right. A lot more work than over 50 years ago.
