Budget Speakers With a Big Sound
It was a big decision for me choosing to buy a brand of speaker which I had never heard of. At home I am used to listening to music through B&W, Tanoy or KEF. The only system left to upgrade was in my kitchen. I had made the decision to go wireless. As soon as I started to look I realised that with such a limited budget my options where limited. After reading a heap of reviews I decided to go for the Edifier R1700BT Active Bluetooth Speakers. I was not disappointed: The speakers are well built. They have a nice finish and feel very sturdy. I would say that the overall design is somewhat dated. I have chose to keep the front grill on. The sound is great for the price. Nice and clear with crisp treble and a detailed mid. The bass can be "Boomy" at times. The analogue tone dial helps ... It was a big decision for me choosing to buy a brand of speaker which I had never heard of. At £129.99 though you can't complain. The connectivity and set up is fantastic. I can stream music from my lounge no problem. All of my Bluetooth devices have connected seamlessly. The only real issue I have is with the footprint. The information on the site is correct. Unfortunately, the lead you use to connect both speakers together has a very large profile and sticks out from the back of the speaker at least an extra 25mm, because of this they didn't fit where I had intended. Overall these are great budget bluetooth, powered speakers with a lot to offer. I have been very pleased with them and would highly recommend.

Good speakers but not good value for money.
I'm by no means an audiophile but I do enjoy my music. What I love the most is a good bass (low-end). With these, the bass is OK, when cranked up they do resonate and suffer from distortion. What they do excel on is the whole sound range, very clear sound even at low volumes, very pleasant indeed. Not the best I've heard and you might want to consider spending less on other similar products. Build quality is excellent with a nice thick cable to connect the left speaker. Knobs are great, inputs are easy but the power cable is not modular so care should be taken not to twist it about. I do use speaker isolation form and I've tried the spikes also which greatly improves the sound. I'm by no means an audiophile but I do enjoy my music. What I love the most is a good bass (low-end). Good quality!
I chose these over the Mackie CR4bt and I am glad I did. These Edifier R1700bt speakers have a clean sound with clear mids, treble and surprisingly good bass although a little boomy this can be adjusted with the on board EQ.Good build quality and easy to set up and use. They also pack a little more power than the Mackie equivalent. Not as discreet as a sound bar maybe but better angling and possibly better sound than most but I don’t use sound bars so can’t compare but again I would bother with the comparison due to the quality of sound these Edifier speakers already provide. Great for gaming, Movies, TV, Music streaming and so on. Bluetooth works great and connected devices work solidly. Great for medium to large rooms. Outstanding Active stereo speakers.
I bought these speakers for my son, as a step up from one of those portable compact speakers. He uses mainly Bluetooth connection from his phone. Out of the box, just needs plugging in and connecting together with the leads provided. Bluetooth connection was pretty instant when switched on. The sound quality is tremendous ! Real clarity from the tweeters and great bass, which can be fine tuned with the separate bass and treble knobs. Plenty of power from the volume control with no distortion. Myself, I have always had hi end separate components to play my music, so I know good and outstanding , value hi fi when I see and hear it and these active speakers are as good as you'll get if they were two or three times the price.
