Makes recessed letters, lines, etc. stand out
The seller's description started out, "Lacquer-Stik is a quick and easy way to color brighten stamped, carved and engraved lines or lettering on metals, glass, ceramics, plastic, wood, rubber, fiberboard, etc.," and that pretty much sums it up. I have a classic British car where timing is set using the crankshaft damper, which never had the stamped lines and text annotations painted in and the original paint applied to it is matte black. Needless to say this is a recipe for invisibility after decades of exposure to dirt and grime. Why these were not painted in to begin with will remain a mystery to me. The Lacquer-Stik has a texture between "crayon and Crisco" and is easily applied by rubbing over the area with the recessed lettering and/or lines & figures. Make sure the item is as ... After applying, you should wait only a very brief period of time, about a minute at most, before you wipe the excess from the surrounding surface with a paper towel or piece of soft cloth. The lacquer paste "sticks" in the recesses and comes right off of the smooth surface that surrounds it. Another reviewer states it takes several days to dry completely, and given that the surface of the Lacquer-Stik has a crust, while the interior is a very firm paste, I would have to believe this is accurate. See the photo for the result on the crankshaft damper timing marks, which had previously been completely impossible to see. It says it all. You can also see the result on the side of a Lucas relay that also had never had the stamped information filled in. The Lacquer-Stiks come in many colors, including a couple of metallic ones, so it would be possible to match any number of original paint colors when needed.
