Gamers use a shovel to slash enemies, unearth treasure, and bounce around classic 8-bit environments in the side-scrolling platformer Shovel Knight. Players take on the role of the titular adventurer, who travels across the land battling the Order of No Quarter and their evil leader The Enchantress in hopes of reuniting with his love Shield Knight. Each stage has its own theme and offers unique enemies and hidden areas, and most levels include new sub-weapons that can be upgraded by collecting loot. The game also includes a mission-based Challenge mode and a more difficult NG+ mode.<br><br>The Wii U version offers Miiverse support to let players read in-game message left by others, it works with most Wii and Wii U controllers, and it supports off-TV play with the GamePad.

    A new throwback to the nes

    This is a great game. Other than some scrolling backgrounds which the nes could not do this looks like a top notch late nes game. It reminds me of ducktales, Wizards and warriors, castlevania, megaman and mario bros 3 rolled into 1 game and it works very well. The controls are great. You move through levels like an old school platformer wielding a shovel as your tool, weapon and pogo stick. You also get projectiles as well and magic that gives you short term fire power to invincibility. The music like graphics are straight out the nes era. Very 8-bit nes style. I know people use the generic term 8-bit even though a game may look 8-bit or 16-bit retro each 8 and 16 bit system had a different look. This is spot on nes style, graphics, music and gameplay.     Amazing classic platformer

    Mega Man meets Castlevania meets all new mechanics. Holy cow. This game seems like it was made for me. If you like classic game feel with well thought out mechanics, a self aware silly-but-serious plot, and great music, this is for you.

    Love this Game!

    I absolutely love this game so my opinion is obviously bias but if you like 2D platform games with a retro touch , I think you’ll enjoy this game. It’s controls are spot on and it looks beautiful!
