Good device, but not quite right for some crossword fanatics
This was bought as a present for my crossword-loving spouse, to replace her Seiko ER3700 which had developed the dreaded 'sticky-key' syndrome. The Spelling Ace, as the name suggests, was developed for US school kids and is suitably designed and manufactured for this purpose. It is a hand-held device, but with well-sized buttons and a decent screen size. Most importantly, it has excellent battery life from the use of four AAA batteries. There are some downsides: the thesaurus is somewhat limited [but probaby fine for it's original purpose] and although all of the functions are present for an avid crossword-solver, they are not presented or sequenced in the most logical manner. No doubt this will become easier with longer use. One small point [literally] the battery cover slides in place, but is retained by a tiny cross-head screw, which must be completely removed to allow the cover to slide-off. If you can, then use a magnetic scredriver for this, as the screw is very easily lost. In an ideal design, this screw would either not be needed or would be retained in the cover when unscrewed. In conclusion, my wife says that she continues to use her ER3700, despite the key problem. Could be beter
It needs to tell what every word means, most of the time when I find a word and I don't know it's definition, And when I look It up on the Franklin spelling Ace it only tells me that it's a real word, but not what it means, now words we all know what they mean, well, it gives the meaning of those words.
