Good blu-ray player
This Blu-ray player is the only way to watch Blu-ray and dvds movies on most laptops that do not come with dvd drives now . I have a Alienware laptop that streams movies very well but I like to watch the new releases and those are on disk so this drive is good for that . I had no trouble getting this drive up and running in a very short time works well with the supplied software .

This external USB 3 DVD player is supposed to be about the fastest you can buy as of 2015. It's supposed to be able to play Blue-ray movies. And maybe when it was first produced a few years ago that was accurate. Unfortunately there are a few realities. You must install software / codecs in order to play the Blu-ray and in the new world of Win10, the Cyberlink (sic) version 10 software provided doesn't work (for playing Blu-ray) and you have to pay almost $100 for the version that does. ALSO while I admit I am accustomed to the speed of built in optical devices, if this is the fastest external around then I'm very disappointed with the entire optical industry. There is a lot of latency installing anything from this drive and I'm a realist - if I return it for something else I do not expect to find a better product.

Light, Fairly durable and a solid player.
Reading/Burning - Haven't had any issues whatsoever, plays any DVD I've thrown at it, haven't tested the burning as I rarely need to burn DVD's. Blu-Ray DVD also works fine. Design - Small compact design and with the "clam shell" style lid there's no flimsy tray that is abundantly common with portable/USB drives. Durability - I wish the lid felt a little stronger, I dunno how it would hold up in a drop but the drive itself feels rather light and solid while maintaining a minimalist design that will easily fit in with most setups. It's expensive, but if you want the best you go with Pioneer.

CD, DVD & BLU-RAY - READ & BURN. Works well. Quite. Compact. Seamless software. Protective case with room for disks & accessory cables is a real bonus. This is my second one: as most laptops no longer have on-board expandable memory, this comes in handy when the kids want to watch a movie and I have business needs for the 1st one. Worth every penny!.

Able to watch rented Blue-Rays
Included software prompts for free update but then wants user to install paid update to 'get current' was able to watch rented blue-Ray without paid update software but had plenty of nag screens. Have not tried writing any disks. The latch will only unlock when power is on, so it was only frustrating until I figured that part out (as to why I couldn't open the cover) also on my laptop it has to be plugged in with both USB ports prior to powering on the laptop
