      Printer not checked thoroughly for defects before selling it.

      Defective, heat fuser unit for image drum will not turn off, stays on all the time, fire hazard, generates a lot of heat, fans run nonstop. Normally, fuser power is shutoff within seconds after each print job. Waste a lot of electricity. Have to manually unplug printer after each print job to avoid a fire.

      Brother HL-5240 laser printer

      I already have two inkjet printers, but I had a need to print higher volume in black only. I am currently pursuing a doctoral degree and the amount of reading required is incredible. I find it helpful to print out many of the online articles and now I can even afford to print out all or part of the e-books. The Brother HL-5240 is relatively compact; I was able to make space for it by a little rearranging of my computer desk. Setup was simple and quick. You should be able to make a test print within just a few minutes of opening the box. One of the features that sold me on this model was the ability to make duplex (two-sided) prints. I decided to put this to the test right away and printed out an entire e-book (around 175 pages). Paper saving alone will pay for this printer in a few months ...

      Good printer; would buy again. Owned about 6 weeks.

      Bought for speed first, price second. After 6 weeks, very pleased and would buy it again. Still waiting to see toner lifespan and cost of replacement toner. Pro - inexpensive, fast, quality of print easily meets my homeschool needs. Con - decent sized footprint

      Brother 5240 is a good value

      This 5240 replaces a Brother 5140 that broke because of a toner cartridge that had sat on the shelf for two long and got stiff. I already had one 5240 and now have two. The 5140 lasted about 8 years without a glitch and the first 5240 I have has been performing flawlessly for over 3 years. These laser printers may cost a little more than an inkjet but will soon pay for themselves with the savings on toner. I routinely get will over 6000 pages out of a toner cartridge and they are available from LDProducts.com for about $25 so printing cost is low.
