The AVR 520 is a 7.1- channel audio/video receiver. It's extremely powerful, with a high-current, ultrawide-bandwidth amplifier design. It's supremely capable, with Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro Logic II, three DTS modes and HDCD decoding, as well as four modes of Logic 7 and two modes of VMAx virtual surround sound processing, and MP3 playback from compatible computer-based audio sources. It's elegantly intuitive, with on-screen menus, fully color-coded rear-panel connections, and the exclusive EzSet remote, which automatically sets the system's output levels, as well as offering programmable or learning control of up to eight system components. And it's ingeniously versatile, with HDTV-ready component video switching and multi-room/multi-source audio capability. The AVR 520 provides superior performance for serious digital entertainment at home.

    Remote nice to have but not necessary

    I bought this item from an eBay seller years ago. I'm an audio nut, but I don't have a lot of money for hardware. The other person's review about not being able to assign digital inputs/outputs without the remote is NOT TRUE. The there are three black buttons in the dead center of the front panel. Two are directional arrows and the middle one is "select." These are the key. The process is described in the owner's manual. The menu system IS accessible through the front panel, without the remote. This will allow you to control channel assignments and speaker levels, etc... A little advice? Spend the couple of extra Jacksons and order the remote from Harman/Kardon's website. While you're there, download the owner's manual too. I would rate this receiver 'excellent' except for one ...

    Good luck with shipping

    Shipping USPS, UPS FedEx good luck. Three nice receivers were DAMAGED en-route to my address. Given up. Will no longer buy or sell anything ELECTRONIC through internet. Go watch you tube on these three shipping sources.
