    An excellent story of good vs. evil set in the Middle Ages

    A beautifully filmed and acted (so many good actors!) story about a time very, very long ago. But we live with the same human virtues and weaknesses as then, so all the character interactions feel immediate and relatable. There are great people to root for; evil people who sometimes prevail . . . Though the framing and storytelling are very traditional that seems fitting; I would not ask for more.

    Could have been a better

    Good acting, lots of action and fast moving. But historically inaccurate. Too many sex scenes and to much use of the "F" word which did not appear in history until around the year 1475. To sum up we watched it but it's not one we will keep.

    Great miniseries based on great book

    Tony and Ridley Scott, among others, took on the huge task of adopting Ken Follett's massive work, "Pillars of the Earth" back in 2010 with some familiar, established actors such as Donald Sutherland, and some up-and-coming talents such as Hayley Atwell and Eddie Redmayne. The book is grand and sweeping and covers approximately 25 years of strife in building a large cathedral in the English countryside, and the miniseries clocks in at eight hours. Yet only minor changes exist in the tangled web of character arcs, and the miniseries ends in the same satisfying way as the novel.

    Historically fascinating, well dramatized.

    This story is very true to the historical period it is set in. Customs, the clothing, the impact of Christianity, wars over sovereignty issues, gender roles are very accurately portrayed - as by the author Ken Follett in his original epic novels. The actors all do a great job in making their Characters interesting, people one can sympathize with, be angered by, love, or revile.

    After reading the book years ago I was anxious to see this story come to life. I have a fairly new DVD /Blueray player and the discs worked great. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the story.
