Unlike Dead and Breakfast (please see my review of that movie before you watch it) this is a zombie movie. THE zombie movie. Traditionalists will take Night of the Living Dead because of what Romero achieved with absolutely nothing, but I my mind they all pale in comparison to this one. Dawn of the Dead showcases a level of surrealism and social commentary not found in 'Night' and takes the brutality to a new level as well. The pairing of absolute violence and rampant consumer culture in the movie offers a stirring criticsm of American capitalism unequaled by any movie I come up with. For added fun, watch the European version, released as 'Zombi' or 'Zombie' and recut by none other than Dario Argento.
