Great book for the skills that used to be common knowledge. Most readers will find some information that they already knew, but a lot more that they didn't. This book covers a vast array of homestead-based topics including livestock care, gardening, cooking, sheds, etc.,etc. I have a copy of my own and have purchased copies as gifts for others in my family. I wish every book I bought would be as useful as this book! I refer to it often with question of my own and for others. There's so much information in this book that I find something new every time I open it. I highly recommend this book!

Truly an excellent book that contains a wealth of knowledge that has been "real life" tested! Don't let the title mislead you, for there is a lot of useful information that both the suburbanite and urbanite can use, though primarily written for the homesteader type. Carla Emery's writing style will not only educate you, it will entertain you with her experiences and those shared by others! An enjoyable, informative read would be how I would describe this book if I was limited to one sentence!

As a hobby gardener and animal husbandry enthusiast I regularly consult this book for tips on how to do things the right way. The lady that wrote/compiled this information is a heroine to me-- I hope others carry on to her work and add to this "Bible" of how to live a self-sufficient, natural life.
