Gets The Job Done
This replaces a now discontinued part that did not have the ears on the switch plunger. The ears make it look a little silly but it works fine and the dimensions are correct for a snap-in fit, replacement. Main problem with either design is that the contact mechanism is made of plastic so as the contacts degrade, it creates heat that melts the plastic. Even so, it took near 20 years for that to happen and the replacement switch was inexpensive and very simple to replace so I can't complain much. It seems easier to review the old switch in retrospect, while the new one, won't know if it has same lifespan until an equal # of years elapse but the frig probably won't last that long otherwise. Soon thereafter the freezer door switch failed so I bought another, not checking so didn't realize the freezer takes a dual throw switch because it has the ice and water dispenser in the door. The second throw locks out operation of the water and ice when the door is open. After removing the old faulty switch and realizing this, I found that the correct dual pole switch was rare and alarmingly expensive (saw $70 listings) and already had this new switch so looked at the circuit. IF you can do without having the ice and water lockout (frankly, I've not once ever tried to get ice or water when the door was open but water is fine to operate, just the ice wouldn't have the door chute to go down through) you can use this switch in place of the dual throw. You simply need to jumper between the bottom terminal and the next one up to keep the circuit closed for ice and water. You could solder this up but I just took a little piece of brass sheet, cut and folded it into a U-shape inverted so the original wiring hardness spade connectors slipped over both that piece of brass and the switch terminals. VERY glad I realized I could do that, saved a lot of hassle and expense.

It's a switch, and it turns the light on
Harder to get the old switch out, but it was not difficult. The new one plugs in, and then snaps into place. It is important to unplug or turn the power off to the refrigerator before beginning this project.
