Teen actress Anne Hathaway gives an endearing performance in Garry Marshall's delightful Disney comedy, THE PRINCESS DIARIES. Assisted by such seasoned pros as Julie Andrews and Hector Elizondo (a Marshall regular), Hathaway shines here in her first major film role. She plays Mia, a high school misfit who has resigned herself to social invisibility. Mia and her best friend, Lilly (Heather Matarazzo), are outcasts. While Lilly relishes the role, Mia just wishes a cute popular boy she likes, Josh (Erik von Detten), would notice her. Mia's life changes dramatically when her grandmother (Andrews) contacts her and Mia finds out she is heir to the throne of Genovia, a small European country between France and Spain. The klutzy, socially awkward girl doesn't think she's up to the job, but she agrees to be coached in regal manners by her grandmother before deciding if she wants to become a princess. Marshall (PRETTY WOMAN) is clearly in his element directing this light, charming teen comedy. Andrews, perfectly cast as Queen Clarisse Renaldi, makes her character seem both imperious and caring. Hathaway's performance and the presence of teen pop star Mandy Moore assure that young girls, in particular, will enjoy the film.

Really Great "Chick Flick" for young girls, teens & Mom
Really delightful movie to watch with your girlfriends, daughters or for a sleepover. A coming of age story about a young girl who is from the "nerdy" bunch and then when she finds herself thrown into royalty, the "rich snobby kids" want to befriend her. Loaded with humor as the story leads her transformation from gangly bumblin teen into a graceful young lady. Lots of humor, lessons in friendship and loyalty. There is of course a love story. Who to choose? Rich handsome JERK....OR loyal, loving "normal" guy. The Princess Diaries (VHS, 2001)
This movie is a great one to watch. It's cute and funny with some slap-stick humor with a touch of romance. If you have not watched it, you need to check it out. I enjoyed it and I'm over 40 as well as my boyfriend which is over 50.

this is a really cute film...I BOUGHT IT THINKING MY 16 yr old daughter,would like it,she loves it!!its a great family film, so deffently it will become a classic...buy it u wont regret it

The Princess Diaries
I bought The Princess Diaries along with another video thinking my 5 year old daughter would like it. She Loves it!! The story is really cute and I still love watching Julie Andrews in these types of movies. Would highly reccomend.
