About this product

Product Information

A flight sim designed for play on the high-def generation consoles, the most compelling features of the Birds of Prey edition of IL-2 are in the details. The game's scenery was created using a combination of satellite images and hundreds of historical photographs, for the most accurate representation of landscapes and ground targets in the Sturmovik series to date. A revamped damage engine adds effects to planes in real-time during combat, such as trail lines and holes in the wings. The game features a scalable difficulty system, allowing users to adjust from a fast and forgiving "arcade" style of play to realistically demanding "simulation"-style settings.

As in earlier IL-2 Sturmovik games, missions involve airborne combat in the skies above key ground-based military operations. In addition to the title craft, players can fly in famous planes including Germany's BF 109F-4, Britain's Hurricane, and the United States' Spitfire. More than 50 planes are available in all, although some must be unlocked by completing missions and accomplishing other in-game objectives. The game's 50-plus missions are set in six large European theaters of World War II: The Battle of Britain, Stalingrad, Berlin, Sicily, the Battle of the Bulge, and Korsun. Multiplayer missions for up to four virtual pilots are available, in four modes of play: "Dogfight," "Team Deathmatch," "Ground Strike," and "Capture the Airstrip."

  • An excellent game for the price paid

Whether you're into wwII style games, or just looking to shoot down bogies over the battlefield, IL2 Sturmovik is well worth every penny. Although the controls tend to get a little difficult in the more advanced settings, the graphics are very detailed. Watch wings fall off, tail rudders catch fire, engines explode, etc. The pilots even eject too!

  • Very Good

This is the best flight game on consoles. For 2009, the graphics look terrific and the game is a lot of fun. I am a history nerd but I never knew much about ww2 aircraft. Not gonna lie, this game peaked my interest and got me into learning about it. Some of the missions are a little slow but overall this game is well made. Training mode is fun too, it kinda like a mission editor mode. Also, Birds of Steel, the sequel, is a good game to get which is like Birds of Prey 1.5 with more planes and finally cockpit views for German aircraft!

  • IL-2 Birds of Prey

Is a pretty good game; the graphics are gorgeous and the environment is great. Thae only thing I do not think is accurate is the enemy since I don't think it was that easy to shoot down enemies. Also the AI do not seem agrresive enough (compared to other games I own) That is the only gripe I have about it.

  • Good game, could be better, but still fun to play.

This is a fun game to play overall, but it would really help if there were videos of someone telling you your mission instead of just reading it. By the nature of what the game is, it's a good idea to do it slowly, unless you like getting bored in about one hour. I play about 20-30 minutes each time, that seems to spread it out best.

  • Good sim

Controls take some getting used to but great gameplay and graphics. It is more of a SIM then an arcade feel. Its worth the money
