Recording King has been a well-regarded secret among professional resonator players for the last decade. Now anyone can get a professional-quality resonator at a great price in the Recording King Rattlesnake.
Play It Hard or Soft, Fingers Or Flat Pick & Slide.
Production quality is good. it’s not Gibson or Martin or National quality but it’s good for the materials used. My sample has no apparent finish flaws. The body finish is consistent, top, sides, back, neck. The metal finish is good. Tuners are tight. The nut slots are a little tight, could use some graphite but this is a sub $500 resonator guitar. The aluminum cone has good twang and projection. Once you get to playing and get the cone moving it puts out great sounds with pleasant undertones. The body shape is parlor and it’s thin enough to hold comfortably with good neck feel, not too wide in a soft C shape. It weighs a bit more than a similar size wooden acoustic with a resonator cone, cover, tail piece. It’s pretty light weight for a resonator guitar. Now, it did take a few days to acclimate out of the box. It was initially a little unstable and not holding tune well but it has since stabilized nicely and goes very small degree sharp/flat appropriately with temp and humidity. Tunes right up in short order. I’m good with it being what it is. Again, it’s not a National or Beard resonator. Made In China is right on the label inside the body. It’s not a ‘throw-away’ guitar, it’s a useable instrument with good string action, still has some room to lower the action. It makes a lot of fun sounds, easy to play. No regrets, I’ll keep it, it’s better than a lot of others asking a higher price. Recording King did good with the manufacturer and the QC and set up made the instrument that much better at the price point.
