These are the best for cleaning the air .I now own 4 with only two actually working right ,need to be able to get replacement parts though. I won’t never use any other machine after using The Venta . this newer version works fine but seems more cheaply built. I do not like the switch being lit up either because I like a darkened room to sleep in. Lastly, the advertising on the website says it has a 10 year warranty when it has been dropped to just 2 years. Hope it lasts as long as the previous version (15 years). Come on Venta - don't go cheap.

On the lowest setting it is extremely quiet, but louder on the other two settings. It does a better overall job than steam - keeps the humidity level even throughout the apartment. As a musician I need to control the humidity. Forced air heat can dry a guitar out and in time can turn a rich, full-sounding instrument and make it sound thin and reedy - a situation that cant' be reversed. My apartment is 800 square feet, so I use two of these units. During the winters where I am at present (DFW area) I need to add water once every two days. When I was in west Texas I would have to do it every day during the winter and every day and a half in the summer. In DFW I only need to run the units from November through April, after which I clean them and store them. The units need to be cleaned ... Venta sells water cleaner for this purpose. Put in some warm water, add the cleaning solution and let it run for a couple of hours. Note that you will need to have a humidity reader. I have a small, battery powered one that lives on a bookshelf. (I haven't had to change the batteries in several years.) I don't have any advice for non-musicians, but for those who are, this is way better than having to mess with the huge hassle of humidifiers inside cases. The Ventas are expensive but after three years without a hitch the price amortizes down plus you don't lose the tone - or the investment - in your instruments.

This is the second Venta unit we have purchased. It is easy to maintain and keep operational. A very simple concept that does what its supposed to do with minimal maintenance. Easy to keep clean and sanitary. We notice a definite improvement in cleaning the air while adding moisture to the air in our high altitude desert home. Our pets also seem to have less respiratory and dry skin issues. Significantly reduced shocks from static electricity. This is the second Venta unit we have purchased. It is easy to maintain and keep operational. A very simple concept that does what its supposed to do with minimal maintenance. Easy to keep clean and sanitary. Best in its class. A fantastic machine
I have two of these units, which is great for maintaining humidity for all my music gear in a 800 ft2 apartment. Sad story I had a perfect acoustic guitar - a limited edition 1979 Yairi (only 900 made) that I'd bought brand new and owned for nearly thirty years. I also own a $3,000 Martin, but the Martin never had anything close to the rich tone of this guitar. The Yairi was destroyed in a move and, after a couple of years of looking I found an identical one from the same limited edition. When I received it I was totally bummed. The idiot owner of this extremely fine quality instrument - a guitar with a tone so rich it sounded like a grand piano - had never managed the humidity. After three decades of northern winters with non-humidified central air, the guitar had become thoroughly ... I have two of these units, which is great for maintaining humidity for all my music gear in a 800 ft2 apartment. A couple of frets had lifted up because of wood shrinkage and the deep, resonant and harmonically rich bass and mid tones were gone, as were the jangling highs. It sounded like a $30 Indonesian import: reedy, thin, and whiny. This irreplaceable instrument was ruined by an idiot who didn't care about maintaining the correct humidity for a fine instrument. Its current value should be around $3,500. As it is now, it is worth about $700. Two years in my properly humidified environment (provided by my pair of Ventas) couldn't restore it. It looks beautiful but its tone is gone forever. Doing it Right I have all sorts of stringed musical instruments as well as congas with natural hyde heads. Maintaining the correct humidity is critically important for both. When I moved from a house with humidified central heal into an apartment without it, I did a ton of research and spent weeks doing it. In the end, there was no question about what was the best-in-its-class, so I bought a pair of Ventas. I'm very glad I did. Output In my current location (D/FW area) each unit (which holds just over three gallons) will run through about a gallon of water every ten hours. When I was living in the South Plains of west Texas it would use a gallon about once in every eight hours. Naturally, this will vary by season. With the central heat running in Winter I would see the above water usage. Here in D/FW I only need to run it from December through April and don't need it for the rest of the year. In the plains of west Texas, however, I had to run it year round. Sound Levels When turned all the way up to three I can easily hear it from twenty feet away, at a setting of two, I can barely hear it. At a setting of one I could only hear it if leaning right over it. I have a small humidity gauge on a nearby bookshelf and adjust the settings on my pair of Ventas to maintain a level of about 40%, which means that I keep the Ventas at three most days, backing down to one or off when its raining outside. Smell There is none. The Venta water conditioning additive works great. Minerals If this were a steam unit, I would be gradually depositing a microscopic film of minerals everywhere, including on the circuits of my computer, mixing desks, and electronic devices. The slow and easy evaporative method of the Ventas keeps those minerals out of the air. Last year, after running them during the 5-6 months of cold weather I let them dry out thoroughly and when I took a look in the bottom of each I found a 3/16ths layer of microfine white "sand". This was the minerals removed from the water and that did not end up coating everything in my house. I dumped them out, filled them with clean water, put in the cleaning solution and let them run for a day. Afterwards, I cleaned them with a brand new nylon-bristle dishwashing brush, sealed them in kitchen trash bags and stored them, ready for the following season. Scented Oils I tried using Venta's scented oils but tossed them. The eucalyptus doesn't smell like eucalyptus. It just smells awful. The other scents aren't much better. I use a standard Glade / Airwick plug-in if I want a nice scent. Maintenance Make sure you order the water conditioner and the cleaning solution. Depending on the mineral content in your water, you will definitely have to give this a good soak and cleaning. For me, once a year does it. Cost As for the cost, these are more expensive than some other units but they are well worth it. I've had my two units for over two years now and they keep clicking right along. Endorsement I thoroughly endorse the Venta AirWasher. While it is great for keeping everything from drying out during the winter and keeping my musical instruments from having their tone wrecked because of it, it also eliminates static electricity, which is important when I'm working on delicate electronics.
