About this product

Product Information

WHAT IF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT ENDED TOMORROW? The America we are accustomed to is no more. Practically overnight the stock market has plummeted, hyperinflation has crippled commerce, and the fragile chains of supply and high-technology infrastructure have fallen. The power grids are down. Brutal rioting and looting grip every major city. The volatile era known as "the Crunch" has begun, and this new period in our history will leave no one untouched. In this unfamiliar environment, only a handful of individuals are equipped to survive. Andrew Laine, a resourceful young U.S. Army officer stationed overseas in Afghanistan, wants nothing more than to return home to Bloomfield, New Mexico. With the world in turmoil and all air and sea traffic to America suspended, Laine must rely on his own ingenuity and the help of good Samaritans to reach his family. Andrew will do whatever it takes to make it home to his fiancée, no matter how difficult the circumstances. Major Ian Doyle is a U.S. Air Force pilot sta-tioned in Arizona with his wife, Blanca. Their young daughter, Linda, is trapped in the North- eastern riots. Three teenage orphans, Shadrach, Reuben, and Matthew Phelps, have no choice but to set out on their own when their orphanage closes at the beginning of the Crunch. Then there is Ignacio Garcia, the ruthless leader of the criminal gang called La Fuerza, who will stop at nothing to amass an army capable of razing the countryside. And over everything looms the threat of a provisional government, determined to take over America and destroy the freedoms upon which it was built. The world of Survivors is a terrifyingly familiar one. Rawles has written a novel so close to the truth, readers will forget it's fiction. If everything you thought you knew suddenly fell apart, would you survive?

"Rawles' Survivors is well worth reading. . . well-written and informative, and speaks with an honesty and bluntness often missing from the policy prognotications of the political elite." --The New American, "' Survivors' , painting a realistic picture of life with no plan to survive the harsh realities of a crash, has given me a glimpse into how the other half lives, and how I can further prepare to help my fellow man." --Paratus Familia Blog, "Rawles is an amazingly gifted author who has singlehandedly reignited the post-apocalyptic thriller. • Needs an editor, hard to read but interesting if you can get through it.

This was a hard read. Not because of the subject matter or any perception of conspiracy or racial overtones (there are NONE of these, regardless what some people are trying to claim about Mr. Rawles books) but because it is poorly written, disjointed and BADLY in need of a professional editor to tie the story together. The story line hops around from one character to the other, and while some novels do this quite often, this novel has no flow. It lacks transitions. While the collapse that Mr. Rawles portrays this novel (as well as Patriots) is a very real prospect, the type of person he uses as characters are an idealized fantasy of 100% wholesomeness that never utter a vulgar word. Honestly in the real world people do cuss (even those "devout") and the substitution of such words in this ...

  • A great book that was both educational and entertaining

Are you looking foe information to help you and your loved ones survive armegedon or a world wide catastrophy? (Please overlook the spelling errors if you will, I'm typing in a car at the moment.) Back to SURVIVORS. I am also a retired CI Agent in the US Army and what this book has to offer is very good, consise but a little short. What he is attempting to do is educate the reader in an entertaining way that hits the mark. My only complaint is that he didn't add an additional two to three hundred more pages as there is so much more information that needs to be disseminated out into the survival community and also I'd like to have read more about what happened to the characters in the story. James' work is so entertaining that I found myself reading this book twice in four days which I ...

  • The reading experience is captivating, thought provoking and informative.

I am a relative newcomer to this genre of writing, at least from mr Rawles' perspective. I have read everything he's written to date and am anxious for his new book that is due out in September. I am not a critic on story structure but I've enjoyed both of his stories for what they've had to tell and teach, and his educational book on preparedness I've shared with all of my family and friends and believe it to be concise, very informative and reader friendly. Because I live in the northwest, I was able to relate very well with the book "Patriots" and found it unable to put down for any length of time. In spite of the disclaimers he's added to each book, I've seen each as educational to the point of keeping them as reference material. I have and will continue to recommend his materials ...

  • Important ideas to think about here

This is a good book which holds your attention. Lots of suggestions for ways to think through the problems one might face if caught away from home when the balloon goes up. Getting home could be a challenge. Staying put could also be a challenge. Thinking about how you might approach the challenge may be the edge you need to survive and thrive?
